Has anyone pursued a private pilots license for the purpose of hunting ?

I pretty much did just that. In the middle of the Covid mess, driving back to central Texas from Colorado, i realized my wife was never going to agree to move closer to the mountains, so I had to have a faster way to get there. I took my first flying lesson a few weeks later, and had my...

Tricer LP or MTN HNTR tripod head

For what it's worth, I bought a Mtn Hntr head a few weeks ago and tried it out on a scouting trip last week with 15x binos and my spotter (both a 55x and 77x kowa). I loved the head, and plan on buying another, selling my Outdoorsman heads and switching over to this for both of my tripods. I...

    Colorado Draw results 2023

Same here....this will be my son's first Colorado hunt, but we'll be flinging arrows. Paying for two tags, I'm sure glad the youth only costs $116!

Decline in numbers and quality of bucks during Colorado timberline archery and early rifle?

I saw about 1/3 of the number of deer (bucks and does) above timberline during the muzzy season this year compared to what I have seen the past 4 years in the area I frequent.

Floor less Shelter in Colorado early season?

Floorless should be fine. We have done it every year for the last several at 11-12k in CO early season and into late October.

    Any other pilots?

I'm currently training for my private out of KABI (Abilene, Texas). After driving to Colorado on a scouting trip this past summer, and failing to convince my wife we need to move to the mountains, I decided a needed a faster way to get there. I started taking lessons in September and flew my...

Frontal or Quartering to Shots on Elk

What do you think about a frontal or quartering to shot on a bull with a muzzy? Does anyone here have any first hand experience with it?

    Where are the big bulls?

Thanks for the input, and excellent sharpee job. I should have titled the thread, "Please tell me these aren't CO herd bulls?" Thanks for your input! It's Ft. Phantom unit in Texas, and the coordinates are 32 degrees, 35 minutes, 31.12 seconds North, 99 degrees, 41 minutes, 38.65 seconds...

My Remington UML Setup for CO

Encore is right on both points... With two 0.030 wads and 95 grains of powder, this was the result: Getting better. Luke told me the sweet spot is usually around 98 grains, so I tried that next. First group is on the left, then I adjusted the scope and shot the 2nd group (these are all 2...

My Remington UML Setup for CO

This year, I decided to upgrade from my CVA Optima to something that I could use for longer range shooting (for fun, and potentially in NM, if I ever draw a tag), but also use for elk and Mulies in CO. After debating the Knight UL v. Rem UML, I decided to go with the Remington. I know many...

    Where are the big bulls?

After focusing primarily on Mulies for the last 20 years, my brother and I have decided to try for some decent bulls. I just got back from a combined family vacation/scouting trip to Colorado. We will be muzzy hunting a new to us unit, so I wanted to try to locate some elk. I was only able to...
