I have a Vanguard S2 in 300 Wby. For me, replacing the stock was a must. I went with a B&C for the $, but no doubt a Manners or McMillan would be better (for $$).
I am happy with mine. Shoots MOA with factory 180 SP. I still need to free-float and bed.
Recoil in the new stock seems more...
I have a Remington M700 280 that likes the Nosler 140 BST. Great whitetail round.
Midwayusa.com has Winchester 140 BST and Federal Premium 150 PT for about $30 a box. I would also not hesitate to use the Hornady Superformance or Federal Fusion on whitetail.
Can't go wrong with Swarovski...
Weatherby Vanguard S2 or Tikka T3 Lite in 30-06 with a Nikon Monarch 3 2-8x32 would put you at about $800.
You would be able to get great elk loads less than $30 a box.
Another $100 and you could get a Zeiss Terra 3-9x42
A Remington M700 SPS would be a few bucks more and you would have a...
I have the Leica Ultravid HD 8x42 and they are great! Expensive though. I think I would be just as happy with the Swarovski or Zeiss.
I also have the Leica rangefinder, which is also very good. If I had it to go ever again, I would have bought the bino/rangefinder combination. Leica, Swaro...

I am thinking 120 - 130 grain A-max...
Just ordered a NULA 6.5 Creedmoor to be my "backpack the mountain chasing deer & sheep & goats gun"

I am excited to change the tempo in my life and find more time to find the peace I need.
I grew up chasing whitetails and I plan to expand out west, hunting elk and mulies. Hopefully my wife...
