Looking 4 a new puffy jacket any ideas?

I almost picked up the Bitteroot, but opted for the Selkirk instead to get weight and bulk down in my pack. Crazy light (6 oz), but definitely not intended (nor recommended by Golite) as an outer layer.

Newbie here planning my first hunt

Luked I would recommend picking up a book on Ultralight Backpacking. There are a lot of clever things you can do to save weight. Here are some guidelines. Know the difference between WANT and NEED - Minimize luxury items and replace them with dual purpose items. Scrutinize every piece of...

Looking 4 a new puffy jacket any ideas?

I'll second the recommendation for Golite.com. Great ultralight gear at reasonable prices. A couple that might fit what your looking for: -Bitteroot Water Repellent Down Jacket (850 Fill Hydrophobic Down) 13 oz - $199 -Wenatchee (Primaloft One Synthetic Insulation) 1 lbs - $99

    Quiet Backpack Fabric?

This is just an idea...I've never tested it my self. Softshell lined with micro fleece. Turn the fleece side out. Most are treated with a DWR, so it would be water repellent and the fleece would be super quiet. Maybe pick some up at your local JOANN's fabrics and test it out before committing.

    Scope Case for Pack

Very Cool. I keep toying with the idea of doing the same. I need to stop being lazy and just knock one out. Thanks for the motivation.

    Wilderness Athlete products?

I just started taking the Multi Vitamins and Joint Advantage about a week ago, so I can't comment on their effectiveness. However, one thing I've liked and I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet... is they aren't the size of horse pills. They are reasonably sized and easy to swallow.

    Snowshoe trip with photos

Eric S. If you don't mind my asking, what ski resort did you go to? The family went up to Crystal Mtn. a few weeks ago for a short snowshoe trip. We stuck to some snowmobile trails and then headed off on some side trails after we gained some elevation. I have to say I've been a bit...

Predator Hunting Rifles - What's yours?

Just threw a scope on my old patrol rifle, and plan to use it for coyote hunting. It's a Bushmaster chambered in .223/5.56. It's got a 14.5" chrome lined barrel. It has Surefire rail system on the front (from it's patrol days) and a Nikon Coyote Special 3-9 mounted on top. One of these days...

    Help me understand Sleeping bags!!

So in the end I recommend a down bag rated for 10 degrees cooler than the coldest temperature you plan to use it in. Pick one with hydrophobic down such as DriDown. Check out the Seirra Designs Zissou. They have good ratings and good reviews from those who have tested them. They are light...

    2014 SHOT show Live Updates?

I'm still trying to organize things so I can make it down there this year. If I can't I would like to see what is being offered in the area of hunting accessories for the AR platform. It's popularity has blown up, but still the vast majority of accessories seen are in the tactical realm.

    Calling javelina?

What he said. They have poor eyesight. The couple of times I've hunted them, we would spot and stalk. We were able to walk within 15 yards of them, without them spooking (no exaggeration). We kept the wind in our favor and insured we had some kind of background to break up our silhouette, but...

    Gun case/ shooting mat

A bit surprised no one has responded to this one. I use a Condor Sniper Shooters Mat - $95. It's good quality and has more features than I need. One feature I like is it has stow able shoulder straps so it can be worn like a backpack.
