Lob the 180g ELD-M at 2620ish fps and you have on demand 'regular gun' to ~800 yards with a beefy wind bracket. It's more recoil than I'd prefer, though.

Anybody loading for the 7 SAW? Shot with one of the Alpha guys at a match a few weekends ago that was using one. Sounds like it checks a lot of boxes and would be a perfect candidate for the 162 ELDM. Short action, standard bolt face, SRP, varget for powder, alpha brass. Basically a 7mm-08 improved from what I understand. Guy was running 162's at 2840 from a 24" barrel. Thinking it would be awesome in an 18" or 20" tube.

I’ve got a 20” SAW2 coming my way this spring. Planning to do a short write up. My thought process is pretty much exactly the same as yours. Planning to load 165 TGKs. Hoping for 2700fps for a 700 yard gun.

Love shooting my 7mm SAW with 20” suppressed Bartlein barrel. I load 162 ELDx using Varget and get approximately 2730 fps…. Have shot Aoudad, Axis and whitetail deer with this load out to 400 yards.

What’s your load to get 2730 with Varget? Close to hard pressure signs? Wondering how hard you’d have to push it to get to their “average mv” chart speeds. Based on discussions with the guys at WTO, shouldn’t be super close to hard pressure signs but I’d like some other feedback

Did you go 1:9 or 1:8 twist barrel?

I run a 22" saw ii. 155 absolute hammers at 2990. Took a good mule buck at 690 yards drt. Great caliber. Low recoil. Pretty happy with it. My buddy turned me onto it. He runs prs with a couple other friends all using it. Looking at a 16-18" ultralight packs rifle build now

Did you get any testing done on this? I have a 284 Win throated for the 165 TGK avg velocity 2870 with 52.4gr H4350. Curious to see how the numbers stack up.

Honestly haven't researched the 284 win much but first glance it looks like performance will be nearly the same but the saw may fit in a short action better. Also like varget and small rifle primers. Alpha vs lapua brass is a fairly mute point, although part of me prefers alpha.
Is the 7 SAW basically a 7-08 with shallower seating depth and higher bc bullets?

Haven’t got the rifle yet. Should be coming next month. Fingers crossed!

It’s more or less a 7-08 AI. Think of it as a 7-08 optimized for 165 ish class bullets. The BCs on those bullets in 7mm are impressive. Takes full advantage of them without going to magnum level powder capacity/recoil.

Shoots the same bullets as a 7-08. Improved shoulder, more powder capacity = more velocity

Is it actually more capacity? I thought the shoulder was pushed back rather than blown out. It looks like less capacity. Looks like basically a 7-08 but with steeper shoulders, longer neck, so it's easier to keep the bearing surface out of the donut area. Beyond that it seems like any velocity over a 7-08 is almost entirely from increased pressure?
