I will be driving from New Mexico to Maryland with the wife and kids. We’ll have 3 days to make the trip. Looking for a cool town or campground where we can stay near the Mississippi
( boys want to catfish). Also any cool places to check out along the way? I’ll be traveling on route 40 East

thanks In advance!

Stop at cadilac ranch off 40 in Amarillo Texas. Let the boys paint the cars in the field.

Big texan is fun steak house, you will see the signs coming to Amarillo TX

Maybe someone has more answers for the eastern side of 40. I ran 40 from Oklahoma to California a dozen time to work out their.

Cool idea! I think we’ll do that!
Thanks

The Bass Pro at the Pyramid in Memphis is a pretty cool stop. My kids love going in there. Lot's of good food nearby as well. Just a mile or so from Beale St.

I have heard fishing in the Mississippi that far down is a bad idea due to how polluted the water is.

Pinnacle Mountain State Park near Little Rock is nice. There is a campground nearby and the Arkansas and Maumelle rivers for fishing. From a travel standpoint, it is a good stopping point. https://www.arkansasstateparks.com/parks/pinnacle-mountain-state-park

A little earlier on the road is Petit Jean State Park, has lots of camping, though I don't think it offers as much from a fishing perspective. Plus, it is further out of your way. https://www.arkansasstateparks.com/parks/petit-jean-state-park

Just going off memory, coming out of New Mexico somewhere between Fort Smith and Little Rock would be a good first night stop. Then stop for the second night somewhere past Nashville. Gas tended to be cheaper in Conway or Little Rock.

If staying east of Nashville a lot of cool places on the Cumberland plateau around cookeville. Also fishing below watts bar dam can be pretty awesome if they are generating. Tourist spot but Gatlinburg is not bad and if it is during late fall definetly go to cades cove some major whitetails there but be there at daylight.

If it’s fishing they want, check out dry run creek and the Dam Quarry campground in north Arkansas. Ridiculous trout fishing for youth only. It’s out of the way but not bad for a cross country drive.
