I want to preempt this by saying that I don't want anyone's honey hole or even general areas.
I have a '21 Elk City B Tag and Unit 14 Deer Tag ( I will apply for the mule tag when the time comes).
The success rate for unit (specifically unit 14 where I also have a '21 deer tag) is pretty high the last few years, 20-26% it looks like. I have heard from locals of that unit, that I hunt with in other states, that there are a lot of elk in the unit. But I also hear from nonresidents that hunt there that they go entire seasons without seeing elk.
What is the real scoop? If a guy is willing to go farther, steeper and deeper than the ATV hunters, day after day, is this a good elk hunt? Or have the wolves destroyed the unit ?
I have to schedule a few hunts with dates overlapping this hunt. I want to find out how much of a priority I should make this hunt ( Elk City B/ Unit 14 Deer).
Again, not looking to get info on your secret ridge. Just curious how much of a priority I should make this hunt this year.
Any constructive input is appreciated.
