I've got the carbon fiber Stocky's tikka t3x stock. I'm looking to add a kydex drill thru cheek riser but curious if there is anything to worry about when it comes to carbon fiber specifically? I know they work by tensioning down on the butt of the rifle. I'd assume a plastic stock has more give. I guess I'm worried about cracking the carbon fiber. Any one done this?

Man, I get the willies just thinking about drilling holes in stocks! That`s just me, though. Thus, I have strap on cheek risers on my guns.

I’d go with the victor cheek riser due it being solid and it’s 2 vertical screws vs drilling sideways through the whole stock. You can always fill the top holes versus filling 2 complete pass through holes.

Use a brad point bit and drill from both sides ie don't drill all the way through both sides in one go. Drill through the shell on the left side and then flip it over and drill through the shell on the right side. No cracking issues on the 4 stocks I've done both fiberglass and carbon fiber using a new sharp bit.

We also sell a cheek riser kit here at Razo that comes with everything you need including the bit and a drill template

God no don't do it
It kills resale and looks tacky
Get a stock pack it adds utility to the rifle with the pouch and its not permanent mod.

I was just doing research on cheek risers. I came across this:

I ended up going the drill route (and having it professionally done, plus my stock is plastic). But I seriously considered the Accu Long Range. If you read the description, it works by either a removable double sided adhesive holding it on or you can bolt it on. The thing that makes this cheek riser unique is it's 2-piece, so the back piece gets adhered to the stock, and the front piece is removable (to not block removing your bolt). The front piece comes in multiple sizes too so you can pick which height is needed.

I've never heard these mentioned but stumbled across them recently. IMO if it looks like they present it on the website, this is the best and cleanest looking option. I'm going to try it on my incoming Tikka.

I just saw you had already recommended them haha. Yea, I have 2 guns for sale, as soon one sells ill be ordering my first Tikka and plan on getting one I'd these. If you have any closer pics of the fit on the factory Tikka stock, I'd love to see it closer.

Wish I did. I don’t have that rifle anymore. I have another tikka and an extra riser, so I’ll try and snap some.

No big deal, just curious if they look more like they were meant to be there or more like they were an add on if that makes sense.

I didn't care to risk squeezing the shell too hard so I drilled an oversized hole and bedded aluminum pillars in it.

Used a sharp endmill and plunged all the way through
The advice above about using a brad point and not drilling all the way through both sides at once is good. It will crack outward very easily if not careful and not look the best.

I ultimately think a stock pack with padding is an easier, better route to go. Don't drill holes unless you don't care about resale or just generally like to tinker
