Largest 22 cal bullet in a 1:10 Twist?

Let’s assume 3k elevation above sea level. What have people had success stabilizing? It will be a 22-250 but will load to around 223 velocity

why 223 velocity?

Either way ya never know until you try them. But I cant see a 60gr not working well. Might even get away with 69gr stuff

Just for even less recoil. Trying to make my 22-250 into the rokslide 223 special lol

I get your thinking, BUT, with the 22-250, the ability to drive the bullet much faster than .223 velocities may allow you to stabilize a heavier bullet at that twist rate than the .223.

I get your thinking, BUT, with the 22-250, the ability to drive the bullet much faster than .223 velocities may allow you to stabilize a heavier bullet at that twist rate than the .223.

Dunno what you are calling long range. But a guy can have a pile of fun and learn a bunch, just lobbing 55/60gr stuff across the canyon

That’s what I’ve been shooting so far, wondering if the larger pulleys would be easier to spot impacts/misses?

Go buy some 68gr bthp's and see what they do.

copper creek has a variety of heavier .22 bullets, where you can buy 1-2 bullets or even a box of 20 handloaded rounds

A while back I had a Tikka in 223 that was a 10 twist. It shot the 70 grain Berger absolutely amazing. I want to say they were 2700 or something FPS and I’m at 500’ ASL. I noticed that beyond 400 yards I had to adjust the actual BC to get the proper DOPE. This was likely because the 10 twist was not enough to optimise the BC.

It won't to a significant degree. It takes a BIG increase in MV for a minor improvement in stability factor.

The primary factors involved are bullet length in addition to diameter, weight, and twist. That means the ogive and the use of plastic tips comes into play. You need to do the math (Miller formula) or use the stability calculator referenced above. I ran into this with my .22-250 with plastic tipped 55 gr bullets that were tumbling when other 55 gr bullets shot very well.

I like a 22 250 with a 1@10 or faster. Browning makes a 1@8 or 1@9. I had a tikka but hated it. Nice rifle but with a 1@14 twist.
