Hey guys, Im looking at getting one of these two rifles. I love 308s and have a ton of good ammo already in house. Love the recoil, etc. But, I am somewhat concerned over the 20 inch barrel in the 308. So, Im considering the 7prc and 22 inch barrel. Now, I mainly shoot whitetails in mo at 75 yds so not gonna make a difference here. But, there is a possibilty of a moose or elk hunt, but only one or two of those, and I cant imagine shooting over 300 yds where I hunt there. It looks like I should be able to keep the velo at around 2600 fps muzzle in the 20 inch 308 an around 1500 ft lbs at around 300 yds with the loads im using so should be good. But........I dont wanna be under gunned for moose or elk, or have a issue with bullet expansion in a accubond due to velocity. So, what do yall think.
Oh, I should say I am recoil sensitive hence my love affair with the 308, but the brake should take care of that enough to be fine.

Recoil sensitive = .308. So many moose and
Elk have been taken out to 300+yards with factory 308 and 30-06 ammo that is probably running 2600 fps at best it is not funny.

I would 100% stick with the 308 in this situation. You won’t have any issues killing a moose or elk out to 300 yards with it.

thats where im leaning, the 308 is lighter, and the 20 inch barrel has got to be nice for hunting out of blinds here. the 7prc was a better price, and more power so made me waiver a bit. but I think the 308 and keep my shots to 300 an in and I shouldnt have any issues killing anything I will ever hunt. And heck, nothing says I cant buy another rifle someday if I really feel the need.

You got it exactly right. In a 308 you don’t lose much velocity at all with a 20” barrel and its a do it all caliber with sensible recoil inside 300-400 yards for any animal in north america.

I’ve got a 28 nosler but keep going back to my lightweight 308 for all my big game hunting. I cut my barrel to 18” and love it. Thinking of selling nosler. My nosler is over 10 pounds all in. my 308 is 5 lb 10oz all in. And 300 yards is definitely doable. 400 is my personal limit for this rifle and that’s a long ways off:)

Bullet choice = 90% of killing stuff
Caliber = <10% of killing stuff
*Both providing the same shot placement of course*
Find a heavy for caliber, controlled-expansion hollow point bullet and go forth and kill elk and moose!
Coppers/monometals work well for this task as well.

*IGNORE ALL OF THIS IF YOU NEED TO JUSTIFY A NEW RIFLE.PURCHASE TO HOUSEHOLD-6!*
I'm a moron in that case and should not.be relied on as a reliable expert witness.
