Rocks instead of stakes

Hey everyone,

I'm debating carrying in a tarp in addition to my tent for CO 2nd rifle. I'm wondering about leaving the stakes to save weight and planning on rigging to trees and then tying around rocks instead of the stakes. Has anybody had good or bad luck with this method?

I’ve used rocks when stakes wouldn’t work and they are fine, but a pain. I prefer to carry light stakes for a tarp and put a rock on top if needed, that works well and is easier.

I agree with previous poster. Sure nice to have at least a few stakes. You can also make some if you’ve got a decent knife.

Its worth the extra couple oz not to be scrambling around for a solution everytime I repitch my tarp.

I bought a cheap tipi because it had a lot of hole's in it caused by rocks being put around the edge during high winds. I had it repaired, used a fair bit of material too.
