Just an SOS and pre-set messages to emergency services. No texting others. I doubt we are far out though. Within 5 years I bet most of us won't be carrying an InReach anymore.

Yea its only for emergencies but I hope its a precursor to being able to do it for general text messages. Will eliminate an extra expense and the weight of an inreach!

Garmin is probably scrambling right now. First GPS units become obsolete, and now their InReach will too.

I very sincerely doubt Garmin generates much relative revenue from the InReach line. They're killing it in wearables and avionics. And believe it or not, the original Astro was at one point their best selling SKU. They survived the Nuvi becoming obsolete by smartphones (which I didn't think they would), they'll survive this.
