Going to have a bunch of downtime for my job here soon and wanted to see who had some good recommendations. Read Jack o'conner already. What else?

I've read more than a few sheep hunting books and my favorite so far is " Horns in the High Country " by Andy Russell. He was not only a guide and a hunter but he lived and breathed the mountains and was able to articulate it in print very well. A great read.

Duncan Gilchrist , and Tony Russ

Quest For Dall Rams-Duncan Gilchrist. If you can find this book it's a good buy and good read. Hard to find, some copies can be found online going price is usually 50-90 bucks being it's out of print. I found one for 35 shipped in new condition, so with a little extra effort searching you can find a copy.

Great rams I, II, and III by Robert Anderson are good. However, they are expensive and a combo of pics and some stories. Robert Anderson also wrote Wind, Dust and Snow about argalii hunting in the likes of Mongolia, the 'stans, etc. it's a good read. The quest for dall sheep by Jack Wilson is good and includes the story for the Swank ram. It's soft cover and not too expensive.

Here is a list that I lifted from another site that I use to collect sheep hunting books. I have most except for the spanish only books. That Batten books are must reads. Those were the days by Richard Sand is harder to find but my favorite on international sheep hunting. I do like all of the Gilchrist books and they are getting more and more expensive to buy but you can still find good deals.

Mountain Sheep and Man in the Northern Wilds by Valerius Geist.

I just finished reading it and now it is at the top of my sheep hunting list. Very interesting well written book on sheep by a very smart guy.

I found that Dall Sheep Trails by Ace Sommerfield was a great book about one mans journey through sheep hunting in Alaska.

Here is another to add the the list. I just got the CIC Caprinae Atlas of the World for Christmas. This is a great 2 volume encyclopedia of every sheep and goat in the world. If you are interested in international sheep hunting this is a must. Since I am going to Azerbaijan for Dagestan Tur this summer I have already read those sections and learned quite a bit.
