I drew a Chalk Creek general season buck tag and I'm planning my apparel/sleep gear. Has anyone here hunted this area and could give some info on your experience with temperatures up at altitude? The basin I'm currently looking at hiking into is right around 10,000ft. I've loved backpacking much of my adult life, but this is my first hunt and I've never backpacked this late in the year (mid-October).

Anywhere from 90 degrees during the day to 2 feet of snow is possible there.

I would hedge on 60-70 degree days with nights at or below freezing.

I'm guessing the October rifle hunt.
in 30plus years of hunting there, you could experience every type of weather imaginable. with utahs bipolar weather you can have 80deg on Monday & 2ft of snow Tuesday. I've had that happen. so best thing to do is watch weather week before & expected weather forecast during hunt. then load your pack accordingly. the uinatahs can change weather in an instant moment & drop 30deg in an hours time.

good luck & shoot straight

Sorry. Shouldn't have asked. I'll see myself out. Thanks for the advice on weather expectations.
