What sidearm do you carry in the lower 48 grizz country?
Ammo or load used?
What holster?

Are you a guide, outfitter or camp hand?

S&W 686 plus 7-shot .357 Magnum 4.125 inch Performance Center barrel with Buffalo Bore 180 grain hard cast. It’s really my black bear gun with occasional use in MT, WY and AK. Use a nylon Craft pancake holster on a Bullhide Belt or a custom made nylon shoulder holster. Ballistically equivalent to a 10mm, it’s concealable and fast handling. I hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors.

FA MOD 83 454 Casull 6”
Garrett Cartridges of Texas, 365 gr Hammer Head
old Uncle Mikes shoulder rig and a Double Diamond “Guides Choice”, use dependent on the activity

Glock 40 MOS w/ DeltaPoint optic, co-witnessed Hawkins suppressor iron sighted and Underwood 200gr hard cast ammo. I took a 1.5 inch OWB Paddle for Outside the Waistband Carry ($6.50) from wethepeopleholsters.com and screwed it into a $49.99.Custom Kydex Optic Cut OWB Dara Holster after I removed the belt attachment that comes with the holster. (https://www.daraholsters.com/).

Slides over the belt of my backpacks and locks in but can be transferred to my waistband in a couple of seconds if I gotta drop my pack for the final stalk.

Doesn’t get beat up and wet like a drop holster on your leg, doesn’t get in the way like a chest rig (for those wearing bino bivys) and you can wear your sidearm any way you like, strongside, crossdraw, whatever.

I did the same thing for my Glock 22. Field tested, hunter approved. Here’s the only thing ya gotta do. Once you screw the paddle to the holster, Super glue it in place. Those suckers rattle loose if ya don’t. Try it…you’ll like it, weighs virtually nothing and is secure, tough and durable for those nastier, wetter, dirtier treks when you need quality protection and quick access to your gun.

Glock 20 Gen 4 with Ameriglo Agent sights, TLR-1HL weapon light in a Razco gear holster. 200gr WFNGC hardcast solid handloads beneath 8.3 gr Longshot.

Glock 20 (10mm), nothing fancy, in a DIY holster under my bino harness. With some confidence I may switch to a Glock 43x (9mm) because it's lighter and I shoot it better.
