All,

Going to put together a Tikka 6cm but curious which barrels you would recommend for a reasonable weight rifle?

Thinking possibly MDT HNT26, or Stocky’s VG? I know chassis vs. modern ergo stock.

UM Rings and an 2-10 NF NXS.
Any suggestions on contour and manufacturer?

You will get a plethora of answers based on your post. I have to assume this will be a hunting rifle and not a target rifle? Can you provide a little more details like what you will be doing with the rifle, will it be suppressed or do you have a weight goal you are trying to be at?

This day and age, I'm not a fan of carbons, but I've have 3 zermat proof 6cm prefits that have all shot very well! The 6cm runs fine at 3050 from a 22" barrel, lil lower pressure to do that in a 24". I'd think a light palma or #3, fluted or not would do just fine and be around 3.6# or so. Get ahold of Ace and see if they'll run you a #2 sporter that tapers back up to 700 muzzle for 5/8x24 threads for supressor or brake if that's your thing. Lots of options out there!

What's "reasonable weight", what barrel length, and do you need muzzle threads?

UM has the ACE tikka lite contours that seem appealing. My current barrel is a benchmark #4 which IMO is about perfect for a shorty hunting barrel. It tapers faster in the first 6" than most of the krieger/bartlein contours and then has less taper for the remaining length which means you can still have more muzzle diameter for threads at less weight than a comparable bartlein/krieger. The PBB Lite hybrid contour does this even better by not tapering once it hits 750".

I would say a reasonable weight all up is 7-8lbs.

I’m not chasing the ultralight tier, but I don’t want a fat pig either.
This would primarily be used as a supplementary rifle to practice but also wouldn’t hesitate to go deer hunting with it.
Sorry for the lack of details.

Direct threads for suppression is important.
I’m thinking 18-20” finished barrel.

I know it’s like opening a can of worms, but feeling out the community for manufacturers and contours I may not be aware of.

7-8# all up as in rifle, suppressor, scope, mounts, magazine?

Suppressor, scope, rings like you've laid out is likely over 2 lbs thus you'd need to build a rifle under 6# to meet your goal. That is light and you would indeed be chasing the ultralight tier (as far as custom tikkas go anyway).

So really it's an easy answer, you need to go light as possible on your barrel if you really want to hit that weight. I'd start with a factory tikka lite contour. You will not have enough meat at the muzzle to thread it to 5/8x24 unless you use a face mount adapter. @ 18" you'd have enough shoulder to thread @ 9/16" or 1/2" though. Or get someone who will do a custom contour to leave a shoulder on the muzzle.

Edit: Other options I dont like:
1. heavily flute a heavier sporter contour that has 0.725 Dia @ 18-20"
2. get a carbon (not bartlein, would be too heavy for you). Benchmark or proof or paradigm make lighter tubes.

Call up Josh at Patriot Valley Arms. He does great work and has lots of experience chambering for heavy for caliber 6mm’s. We’ve had a discussion with him over on Snipershide in regards to factory contours with enlarged muzzles that are threaded 5/8x24.

Stocky’s Carbon VG has three different barrel inlets for a Tikka: lite, D18 (RoughTech) or M24 Sendero. Weighs in at a whopping 23 oz.

Anyone know the weight of a PBB Tikka Lite Hybrid contour in the 16-18" range?
