Sap-

In your opinion.....could you list engine/model you're impressed with? I had a 1999 4Runner I "gave away" mid pandemic. Got more than I paid and I put 100K on it and loved it. In the PNWish area....the Runners, Tacomas and the like still bring premium dollar....

The Cruisers actually sell quite a bit cheaper. I am not into the Cult thing at all. I've spent a few hours on YT trying to learn which models are "better"

Between Seattle/Portland/N Cal I see several 1999-2005 with under 200K on them that are clean. I have a pile of dog and simply miss opening the door and chunking them all in with the seats folded flat and hitting the river or tules.

The Runner was a manual 3.4L. Was trouble free. 19+ mpg. Should kept it.

Suggestions on which Cruisers to shop for?

Didn't quite make 5-hundo, but these were all hard miles. I still have it, but it needs more engine work than it's worth.

Driving now so can’t give you everything I would like to say. I have owned a buncha LC/LXs.

100 series 98-2007 are nicer with best engine on the planet. And way overbuilt for average western use. I would say ‘03-05 is my personal sweet spot…. As Im now driving my ‘06.

Just turned 130,000 on my ‘92 fj80, and with the current price of gas, I will be dead well before this thing ever comes close to a half a mil.

Hoping to get to 500k with my 98.5 cummins. Just passed 200k this fall. The previous owner put a ATS transmission in it around 150k. Shredded the pinion gear this fall in the dana 70u and am currently in the process of rebuilding the whole rear diff as well as new ring and pinion which has been a joy.

Hoping with those two big issues out of the way I don't run into anything else

My 99 LC is at 263k. All stock other than 285 10 ply hankooks. Has the rear locker. It is way more off road capable than me. Was the family station wagon for a while now it’s my hunting rig mostly.

Some friends of mine had a 98 with 365k hard miles. Then an employee took it when they werent supposed to slid on some ice and head on into a 4’ diameter cottonwood. No injuries to him, LC was a total loss.🥵

I see "Center Diff" on many. Essentially like full time AWD? Or mild AWD when engaged?

The more capable will have Center and Rear locking Diffs?

MPG is not 6cyl good at 19ish? These are more 12-14 with the 4.7?

Mine is the "triple locked" version, front, rear and transfer case.
Dont know what the mileage is but it's not great.

1989 VW Jetta with the 1.6L diesel non turbo. Not the only owner but have full maintenance history and logs from purchase date. Original motor and trans and I'm about to roll over to 600k. It's my daily beater back and forth to work bc I get 43mpg.

I'm confused, are you asking Land Cruiser questions?
I am . Simply going off what I see and read on Craigslist. Maybe early 90's had inline 6cyl Followed by a 4.7L V8 that seems very stout.

Most say "Center diff lock only".....which is? Simply a transfer case and traditional 4X4 with no locking axle differentials?

I have 582k on my 99 super duty. Took these a few years ago when I rolled over 500k. Best truck I’ve ever had.

My last work car finally snapped a timing belt at 572k, current car I'm driving for work has 437k on it. Both Hyundais. My Tacoma was racking up steady miles til I started driving the cars for work. It's at 271k now. Would be around 400k at the pace i was going lol. Gas prices being what they are now it stays parked mostly

I’ve bragged on my 06 Tacoma before, have 367k on it and I just sunk $4k into the suspension, so I’m committed. Might even get a new paint job this spring. I love old things that last.
What suspension setup did you go with?

Yeah, and then followed by the 5.7L V8. As far as gas goes, the FJ80's had the I6, 4.0L then the 4.5L. I think they've all been known to be very solid motors, but the HP in the I6's is pretty puny, and the fuel economy....well, lets just say that it's not at all on par with a Prius. :)

Differential locks can be a little difficult to explain, but I found this article that does an excellent job.

My first car was a 1989 Jeep Cherokee XJ that was a hand me down from my family that I mowed a lot of lawns and repainted our house to pay for. The odometer showed 425k and had been broken for several years before I even started driving it so it had to be well over a half mil. The only major repair it ever had in its life was a new clutch.
