Need some advice here, I have always used the theory that if you have a tool bring it. However during archery elk in central CO I did not bring a quad. I was severely limited on my access to country. I hiked my butt off only to have people drive past me. So when my son drew a first rifle tag up...
Hunted it last year. Make sure to bring 4 chains, tow straps and a long handle shovel. Multiple people stuck. A wood burning stove with pre cured wood was not optional, it was a must. The area has a ski resort outside of town so that should tell you how much it can snow. I did have a great hunt...
Murphy law. If don’t bring it u will need it. If u have it, bring it. Otherwise you may be limited. Ran into that problem in Utah. Slows u down towing but if are limited to smooth truck roads it may limit your opportunity. In the end you will still have to hike to find anything bigger than a forkie.
Thank you for the reply. I figured that would be the case. Even though my son got lucky with the youth portion of the hunt we still have to deal with the other 17k people who are eligible to purchase OTC.
Thanks for the info. His tag is essentially a rifle tag during archery season. Dates are are 9/17-27. Looking at USFS land but it is always nice to have back ups and I figure if the WMAs are not to packed then I could use them too.
So far I have mainly been using the states website(hunt planner). It has been pretty good at identifying the units, borders and wildlife management areas. I have then tried to cross reference it with Go Hunt, Google Earth and maps. I will be down in panguitch later in the year for my kids deer...
Does anyone have bag knowledge of the amount of use that the wildlife management areas receive in Utah? Just curious if they are heavily utilized or am I better off going to forest service/ blm lands? Don’t need any specifics just curious about the pressure they receive. My so drew a youth elk...
My son (12) was successful this year drawing a youth any bull tag. His season begins September 17th. I have Been researching units and keep reading landowner access is beneficial in the north and northwest units of the state. I would prefer a public land hunt (diy) but would like to keep options...
