Colorado Unit 14 - Morgan Creek Fire

Thank you all for the info. My draw is the early rifle in 14, 16, 161 wilderness. Most of what I had planned is inside the closure and that includes access from the other side of the divide. Time to start a new plan. Much respect to all those involved and prayers they all come out safe.

Colorado Unit 14 - Morgan Creek Fire

Unfortunately that's what I figured. I was there in 18 and with the amount of dead pine it will probably be real hard to get under control.

Colorado Unit 14 - Morgan Creek Fire

Thank you for posting this. The closed area is pretty much my plan A B & C for my early rifle mule deer. If they are able to get the fire under control soon will they open it up before September or should I start putting my focus on plan D E & F?

    Budget 0 degree bags

Buckeye Rifleman, I have a 0 deg Marmot trestles Elite bag I'll make you a deal on. Not sure where you're at in Ohio but I am located in central Ohio so you could take a look at it if you're interested. I used it for a week in 18 for a trip to CO. Bad hips make me move around to much and had...

    VIAM or UGQ Quilt

I have a UGQ. For draft control, check out their dynamic tension control option, it adds some versatility to the quilt and is well worth the $10. They offer a bunch of customization options, the quality is great and from what I've seen they are a very hunter positive company.

Hunting Colorado Elk 2nd Season From Ohio

If you have heat and you and your gear are capable of surviving the cold and snow you should be fine packing in. I was fortunate to meet a gentleman from Iowa who hunts there every year and he was kind enough to share some information. He showed me an area I had not really considered, in which...

Hunting Colorado Elk 2nd Season From Ohio

There is definitely no scenery like that here in Ohio. I was meaning 1st rifle which was the week before. It was an eye opener for me, to see a foot of snow in October. My original plan was to pack in and hunt from there but a foot of snow and 10 degree nights with no heat and being solo I...

Hunting Colorado Elk 2nd Season From Ohio

Picture from northern Colorado. 10,000 ft on October 19, 2018. Some guys hunting 1st season said it dropped below zero at 8000 ft when the storm came through. Just something to consider.

Elk hunting after total hip replacement?

I hear you about the limping and pain, I fought it for way too long. I walked out of the hospital in less pain than I went in with. Sounds like you're going into it with a good attitude and that will help you more than anything. After you get through the first two weeks of recovery you'll be...

Elk hunting after total hip replacement?

I was finally able to do my first elk hunt in 2018 after having my right hip done. You will be amazed at the improvement and will wish you had it done earlier! By slowly working at it I was training with 65 pounds as a regular load and was able to do 80 pounds. It has already been said. Do...

Hip replacement.....Anybody been there done that?

Good to hear the recovery is going well. After many years of limping on mine, learning to walk correctly again took some work. I was also surprised how weird it felt to walk without pain. Keep working on it, and in a few weeks you'll be over the hump.

I need recommendations for a good pack for my wife.

I'll was going to suggest the Osprey as well. My wife is 5'1" and using the sirrus 24 for day hikes and it is working really well for her. it is a women specific design, and has some good thought put into it. The 24L is smaller than what you are looking for, but there are several with larger...
