Excellent write up and ram! Congrats and thank you. which outfit did you go with? how old is the ram, hard to tell from video but looks to be about 8.5 to 9.5?
It was very windy, but i got it up fine. Lots of room for 1 person and gear, extremely light. Could squeeze two in a pinch or one of my kids but not a full sheep hunt with two adults for me. There is a couple good youtube videos on set up, i watched those after i tried and saw how i could do...
There is probably another way and your outfitter would have contacted you if there was going to be an issue (i would hope!). Norther Rockies airport in Fort Nelson for one might have connections to edmonton, it could be an option. There are other airports you could be driven too, it will work...
I try to be at least 1km and try to keep noise to a minimum. Its usually 2 of us so its not too hard except setting up the titanium stove - always makes us cringe! Most times when we try to keep camp 1-2km away they end up coming right through at least a couple times and dont seem to go to far...
I also enjoy the solo hunts, i find the most challenging part is the mental game and sticking it out for 12 days when bad weather hits, lack of quarry or just missing the family. If do my part before i leave to complete important tasks and alot of quality time with family its easier. One...
Sept 14th hiking in, Jet boat drop off. May be smoky this year in some locations. Alot of fires burning in BC, one is 580,000 ha in region 7 and many more started over the weekend. Hope for rain!
Good luck everyone, look forward to seeing some pics!
Last years elk hunt was a bit frustrating but for a unique situation...
We named her Barker. She barked while we slept, she barked if you got up to take a leak, she barked if you were upwind, downwind, no wind. Barked mid-day up the mountain, we started thinking no way in hell thats us...
walking to much, no patience to stay in one spot or small area for too long. Feeling like the elk are gone and leaving the area when they were quietly bedded. Afraid of busting out the herd bull instead of making a play
Love the country, thanks for the write up and laughs. Ive learned when i buy an expensive piece of equipment, i make sure she is taken care of in some way to and avoid the 0 - 10.
I notice the serious looking bear fence! I always wondered if they are more aggressive further north than where i...
I pack in with my 5500 exo bag and frame but roll up my 1800 exo pack and stuff it in the 5500. When i get camp set up i quickly switch over to the 1800 bag. Its worth it for me
BC also seems to be catching up to this new normal sadly. Last two elk seasons my partner and i had been pressured out of drainages by run and gun buglers multiple times. No joke, i have seen the elk file out and even stampede right out of the drainage. Our hike ins to spike camp were 5-10km (in...
I will be hunting stones in september this year and plan to take a tipi tent with stove for main spike camp (10km hike in) and using tarp shelters for staying on mtn if we need. Camp will be just below treeline.
September is bugless at night and weather can be more of an issue so the tipi tent...
I went with a sako 85 finnlight in 7mm rem mag. $$ was the reason i nearly went with the Tikka but this was going to be my gun that hunts everything - wolves, deer and up to buffalo. If it was just a deer gun i would have bought tikka.
Tikka is a great gun but if you can afford it, you wont...
