Interesting the leather didn't work for you. I tried rosin, brown sugar, cardboard, etc... It was only when I cut up a crappy old pair of leather gloves that I finally got my barrel off.
I also used the viper vise, as in the write-up, and the wheeler wrench (awesome tool and helpful customer...
Effectively brand new. Used for one range day. I love the scope and the electronic wizardry, but was too green to realize 6.5x is far too high a minimum zoom for my application.
In states that allow pairing with the rangefinder, this would be all kinds of fun. I actually didn't buy it for that...
Maybe it's just me, but I actually like my brake better on lower recoil cartridges. On my 6.5cm a brake means it is truly capable of spotting shots, easily.
On my lighter 300wm, I'm gonna get rocked either way, so why bother with the brake...
Are you going to add a bunch of parts? Stock, barrel, brake? If so, 300 win mag is fine. I was really worried about the recoil, but I put 3 boxes through it on day one and while it's definitely not my 6.5CM with a varmint barrel, it's plenty liveable with and without the muzzle brake.
I went...
Matt sounds a bit on edge over this topic whereas Steve comes off with a bit more equanimity. I read a good portion of the article and have listened to 20 minutes of their debate. I have to say I'm still not exactly sure what Matt's point is. He seems to be most upset about crowding?
I've...
Just to be clear, are you saying 7SAUM in an aftermarket stock has better recoil than a 300wm in the factory stock? Or do you have an apples to apples experience with the latter?
Only asking because I didn't even shoot my 300wm Tikka before replacing everything and adding a brake. I'll remain...
Since you mentioned barrel twist, and since I've seen a few fairly recent references to Tikka's twist, I'll just throw out there that Tikka is now 1:10 as well.
Other than that, I'll let you know how mine shoots as I just built almost the exact same gun, but with an Iota Eko stock. Haven't had...
Just finished my first tikka build.
- 300wm
- proof cf prefit
- ultradyne Pegasus brake
- iota Eko stock
- Sierra bdx 6.5-20
- warne rings (med... maybe need large! )

Yeah, 40 feels like plenty. Proof said 65-75. I'm not sure if it would make a difference to clean the threads and try again, but I may give that a go.

Tikka action. Proof CF barrel. I have yet to fire the thing! Still waiting on the stock to get here on Friday. That said, I'd prefer to be passing the NO GO test before firing. I realize a lot of people online say it's no big deal if it passes with a piece of scotch tape, but I'd rather be too...
It's probably my own lack of amateur gunsmithing skill, but I'm not getting perfect headspacing out of the box on a shouldered pre-fit for my 300WM. Bolt closing on No-Go gauge, but not with a piece of scotch tape. Torqued all the way to 75 ft/lbs.
