I've had the Yukon line for years. It's held up to being on horse back crashing through trees. There are lighter weight options but that Yukon shit is tough as nails for what rain gear can be expected to handle.
Hey Chris,
Not to hijack the thread but that's an incredible looking bull! With your shot at 400 yards, how was the elk positioned? Was it a nice broadside shot or quartering? Where did the bullet go, and what was the damage like?
What is your weight including food for your anticipated trip? Are you having issues carrying that load? There are a TON of place to shave weight (safely) outside your rifle setup.
As others stated nothing wrong with your current setup. Personally the sweet spot is between 7.5 to 8lbs with an...
Nosler is quoting their Trophy Grade 160gr ammo as having 1589 ft-lbs of energy at 500 yards. You do your part and that is a fine caliber choice for Elk at the distances you want to hunt.
Well the off season has be pondering a few things... namely do I need a semi-custom Tikka? And I cannot find a reason why I don't.
When buying a donor rifle I was primarily thinking of a stainless T3, but with availability in Canada seemingly limited on the used side, I was wondering if a...
I just picked up a nice '54 Marlin Lever in 30-30. Ammo availability played into my thought process. It's a round that is easily found in my area. I'll be excited to put it to use this year :)
I think the V4 is likely the best of everything in it's class!
With that said, I will be watching the feedback/reviews on the Leica Amplus 6. Yes it is new. Yes no one has put it through it's paces, but it does seem like a strong competitor for the V4. If you're looking for something to compare...
Hey Hunter! Great to see you on this forum buddy. There is a WEALTH of knowledge here that I've enjoyed soaking up and contributing to where I can.
For those that haven't checked out The Hunters Quest podcast, make sure you do!
Lindsay and I have had the Storm Star for just over a year now...
On their website it often pops up. It's 15% off one item on your "first" order, predicated I believe on a new email address. I've also seen people share or give away their discount codes here.
We bought ours last year and have had it in decently rough conditions. It's been bombproof thus far. Next weekend it'll likely be into some more heavy rain and snow.
Overall it has it's pro's and con's like any other tent would. This is my take so far.
Pro's
- Relatively light weight for a 4...
Not sure if it's factual or for this year but on a recent Podcast a Tikka sponsored group mentioned they were looking at releasing a 28 Nosler in the lineup
30-06 has been my one trick pony for years! It's been a favorite as I've always found ammo, never has an animal thought a well placed shot was too light, and recoil is uber manageable even in Sako Finnlight.
That said I've sold that rifle and look forward to getting something different just...
As a non-reloader myself this sounds like the holy grail for where and what I hunt. I hope this caliber becomes popular enough to see a wide array of manufacturers produce rifles chambered in them AND get a big enough following ammo will be easily found. Those two factors will be in play as I...
If your not a gun nerd, then all 3 of those will do the job equally well with the right bullet slection and shot placement being the biggest key. If you want a new gun right now by a 6.5PRC or 270WSM. If you're okay to wait, the 6.8 Western will be out in select models soon and sounds impressive...
