Does anyone have a suggestion for a barrel maker that does a 22" 1-in-8" 280AI in carbon fiber?

Is that enough barrel to completely burn the powder? I'd make sure you're not sacrificing powder burn/velocity so much that you'd be better off with a 7mm-08 in those shorter lengths. Might be good to google "complete powder burn barrel length 280AI" if you're not sure, and if you are... feel free to ignore me ;-)

My 22” 280AI pushes factory loaded 160gr Nosler Accubonds over 3000fps. A bit faster than my friends 22” 7mm Rem Mag and a good chunk faster than a 7mm-08 would spit out even a 140gr pill…I think he’s good there!

I'm sure any barrel maker could make you a .284 barrel @ 22". That's standard for a 280 rem

CA is coming out with a 22" AI rifle:

There's almost nothing that doesn't very close to 100% burn in the first few inches of a barrel. Complete combustion is not what causes longer barrels to shoot faster.

I plan on running a silencer on this build.

I’m selling one right now. New made by X-Caliber. Mine’s a contoured blank, but they will also make you a prefit with the same specs if that’s what you’re looking for.

Pretty much any of them should. I chose Carbon 6 to do my 20" 7 saum with 8 twist. None of them will likely have it setting on the shelf, will have to be ordered. Or find a blank and have a smith do it.

I believe the savage ultralite with proof barrel is only 22" in the ackley in case you'd prefer a factory option.

I'm leaning .280AI

Will the 1:9 twist stabilize heavy bullets?

Why do builders chamber rounds with super long barrels then? Christenson has some with 26" barrels?

Carbon six has made me an 18” 6.5 PRC barrel and now a 16” one. They’ll make you a short 280AI for sure

Thank you, Forest. That Savage Ultralite was flying under my radar. I went down an internet rabbit hole last night on the Savage Ultralite. It got some good reviews. The only real knock on it was the flimsy stock. Looks like a lot of bang for your buck.

I picked up a Savage Ultralight .280 AI. The stock isn't the greatest, but I switched it out to a Boyd's Stock and it is gorgeous! It's dropped 2 elk and 1 bear so far. More to come...hopefully many more. What did you end up getting? I love mine! I want to get a second one for when I take my kids with me.

Good information. I'm looking for a .338 22 inch carbon barrel. I would like a Proof but they don't list one.

The “standard” length for a 280AI is 24”, 2 inches won’t matter much.

How much does that stock weigh? I am looking to replace a Savage stock.

I picked up the Heritage version and it is 2.8 pounds. There are some who have drilled it out and made it lighter. They show the weights in the gallery section when you click on more information. Here is the link: https://www.boydsgunstocks.com/gallery

I love the stock. That is why it is my profile picture. There are several models out there. The SS evolution is only 2 pounds. If I ever swap mine out, I might get one of the fancy models. Good luck. Post pictures if you do it.

Apparently I didn't do my response correctly. Here it is again.
