I am switching to a 7-08 as my deer/elk rifle with a 22" barrel, 1:9 twist. 500 max yardage on deer and 400 max on elk.

I haven't seen a ton of info out there on the factory 150 grain Hornady ELDX. Any thoughts on this round? I've used ELDX for 7mag and loved the round with fantastic results. I'd assume to see similar out of the 7-08?

Sounds like a good load to me, especially for Whitetail.

I have used the 6.5mm 143 ELD-X and .308 178 ELD-X of Whitetail, Axis, Red Deer, and Pigs. Impact velocities all over 2000 FPS. Excellent performance.

Do not be surprised if you do not get an exit hole. If you prefer an exit hole, look at a bonded or mono-metal bullet.

Bringing this to the top as I'd like to try this bullet. Does anyone have any kills under their belt with this bullet in 7-08? Also looking for a screenshot of Hornady load data. I have piles of H4350 so hoping I can make that work.

My wife killed a Roosevelt elk last season with a eldx out of her completely stock Tikka T3x 7mm-08. She was using factory ammo. First shot was at 263 was a bit back. Bull just stood there and let her hit it a second time. He then did about a 60 yard sprint when his legs went out and he piled up. Did the gutless method but was able to recover both bullets in the off side hide. If I remember I’ll take pics of them tomorrow and edit this post.

Sorry for my lateness. Public service announcement: parole officers have NO sense of humor.

I switched from 140 Partition/AccuBond to the 150 Eldx about 5 years ago. Max load of Big Game over a Winchester magnum primer in Remington brass. I get nearly 2800 fps at the muzzle and stellar accuracy.

Only one bull so far, but he was 409 yards away

A truckload of deer, but they die pretty easy.

My brother put a suppressor on his Tikka (pretty much all we shoot, variety of chamberings) and gained about 90 fps to 2885, no pressure signs, same charge but different OAL.

I‘m a big fan of the bullet. Much more stout than I expected and nothing needed a second shot.

We practice regularly at 500-600 yards and the BC stands up to predicted very well.

Factory ammo MV was a little slower than my handloads but the difference is insignificant.

I’ll be carrying my -08 in a couple of weeks chasing elk in the Cascades here in Oregon.

Curious as well. Surprised there is not more info via search

Have just ordered some 150gr and hope to work a load up in my 7mm-08 w 1:9 20 inch barrel and RL 19 or RL 15

Bought some BG and the ELDX for my new T3. Probably hit you up for some info when the weather cooperates.

I’m your huckleberry.

The photos I posted earlier are a good start but you might need a long action bolt stop. They’re cheap and it’s an easy swap. Might get by simply by using 30-06 mags, too.

Was thinking that exact thing. Easy enough to do.

I really like the performance of this bullet. No experience on elk but kills Whitetails like lightning. Don’t see a problem taking any animal with it. It gets a lot of hate but I don’t see a reason why.

I think the main reason why is some people want it to be able to blow through shoulders and keep on going. Thats not what its designed to do. In my experience, put the bullet in the right spot and it works great.
