7 Saum powder selection

Hey Guys, I'm building a 7 Saum and looking to see what others have had success with in regards to powder selection/primer combo. I would like to stay within the realm of temperature stable powders. I plan on using Berger 175 hybrids (if they are ever available again). I have H1000, H4350, and Retumbo on hand. I have heard that 4831SC works as well. Any info, good/bad experiences appreciated.

Of what you have, H1000 will be best. It takes the same powders as 280 AI. I did this quest with a 280 AI and 7 SAUM and landed on the same powder. They have the same case capacities. For me and what I had on hand it was RL23. Retumbo will almost guaranteed be too slow and 4350 will almost guaranteed be too fast, especially for that bullet. I tried RL26 too and it wasn’t bad but 23 was better in both 280 and 7 SAUM. I use mag primers in both.

Hey Mark, I actually just listened to your recent podcast on your 7 SAUM build. What powder/primer combo did you have the most success with?

For 175-180s I like h1000, H4831, RL23, RL26. H4350 is on the fast side but I bet it would still shoot real nice if not the highest velocities.

I started with WLRM primers and they have done so well that I haven't wasted components trying to compare to other options.

RL23 has been magic with bullets in the 160-175g range (Accubonds, VLDs, ELD-X, etc). H-4350 is good for lighter monos, such as the 143g Hammer Hunter.

Thanks Mark, looks like RL23 is the clear favorite for for the desired bullet weight. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to obtain, but like everything else, I'm sure it is.

The 7SAUM/R23/175 elite hunter combo works well for me.
Currently at 58.5 R23, ADG brass, 175 elite, with Fed 215M primer.
Suppressed with Dominus CB.
Was at 2,780 fps out of a 22” barrel but I need to chrono it again as I have almost 200 rounds on it now.
Going to push it up to 60.0 grains just to see if any pressure signs pop up.

Thanks for the info, and another vote for RL23. I the good news is I do have fed 215Ms on hand. Getting hands on the ADG brass is another story.

My 7saum load with 180 berger hybrids is.
61 grains H4831sc. adg brass. fed 210m primers. 2930fps. I run a 26" proof sendero lite barrel on a medium Fuzion TI action.

That's a great speed, I'd be pretty happy with that. Do you know how close to pressure signs you are at (I hope that makes sense)?

Also, I have a Ti Fuzion on a 6.5x47, and love it, great action.

63.4 grains of H1000 with berger 180 hunt vld in norma brass is working really well for me. Getting 2860 from a 22" bartlien carbon barrel.

24" proof barrel, ADG brass, cci200, H4831sc
180 hVLD: 2850fps
162 ELDm: 2920fps
195 EOL: 2740fps

I'm not stressing the brass or flirting with pressure. H1000 was a smidge faster with the 180/195 but H4831sc has been more accurate for everything in this rifle.

Tight race between h4831sc and RL23, I really appreciate all the feedback!
Has anyone heard anything about the next run of ADG brass?
