I would be ecstatic with 2820 out of an 18"

If I get that out of my 19.5" with the 175 EH I'll be happy. 2850 is my goal but I'll let my barrel decide.

I’m definitely happy with it. The low/single digit SD’s were also surprising to me with such a slow powder in a short barrel.

I will say the added 200fps did not go unnoticed on the recoil side of things though. It’s not terrible but it definitely lets you know it’s there. Likely won’t be spotting impacts at 200 yards anymore.

I've got too much H1k and 4831sc to go and try the vv stuff but if I can't reach the speeds I want with H1k I might try some of the 570...your results are very promising.
What case fill percentage do you think you are at and how compressed?

H1000 might be able to do it in a longer barrel but I don’t think it would be able to in my 18” without overpressuring.

It’s very full. If I hadn’t used the tooth brush to settle the powder it would have been crushing a bunch of it. These sat with almost no crunch

I've found that a lightly compressed load produces good es and sd. Not always but more often than not.

I’m at 2950 with the 175 eh and h1000 in a 22” barrel. This was with around 50 rounds through the barrel, I suspect it will get a little speed up here shortly. I’d guess you’d get to 2850 with 19.5”, but yeah, let your barrel tell you where it’s happiest at.

Nice, thats good news to me. 2950 out of a 22 is great 👍

Wasn’t compressed either. Stopped before reaching pressure because I found an accurate load to use for hunting season and called it good for now. Will fine tune this spring

Loading up some more tonight. 73.0gr. Left case has been vibrated with my kid’s old Encanto toothbrush, right case is as the powder fell.

I landed at 70g of n570 and a 180 eldm. 18” barrel right at 2835. This was a 8 shot group and some suppressor mirage lol
Damn that is quite a bit faster than I am getting. Pretty close to where I’m at with 73gr, but much faster than where I was at 70gr. Is that once fired brass or virgin?

Possibly. The virgin brass was close to same velocity in my chamber. These short barrels seem to be shooters though haha
No regrets on going short, and honestly had good performance this season at 2620fps with the 180 hybrid so I’m pretty much ok with whatever load ends up being consistent and accurate

Absolutely man. I tell everybody I talk to as long as you’re happy with the accuracy and the performance doesn’t matter much what anybody thinks. I’ve always been a 2800fps and above. So all the rifles I build that’s where I try to land. I have a 300 prc +p 20” shooting 215 bergers at 2850 and that things hammer hahah

Following up again from today. Groups from today list today’s date. Dots are .75”.

Velocities attached as well. 2859 at 73.5gr. 2833 at 73.0. 18” c6 barrel, 180 hybrid, Peterson brass

Edit- something to note, last time I shot these loads I was using a hybrid 46 suppressor. This trip was with a scythe ti.

Playing around with GRT today and I am coming up with some very different numbers than what was experienced in the field. I figure there may be a little velocity gain with the suppressor (20ish fps?), but it is showing about 140fps difference from what I experienced. None of my loads showed signs of excessive pressure, but it is showing that in order to hit the velocity I achieved, I'd need to be about 3 grains higher than actual. I honestly don't know that you could even get an extra couple grains in there. Even at 73 and 73.5 I have to give it a good 10-15 seconds with the electric tooth brush to get the powder to settle far enough to seat the bullet without crunching powder.

Overall it shoots great. Going to load up a bunch at 73.0 and see how they hold up over time.

73.0 @ 2695 - actual @ 2833

75.8 @ 2835

I have a load I like with 168LRX 67.5g RL26 2974fps, but can't find RL26 anywhere, so looking at switching to N5??, curious what folks would recommend as the best "similar" powder N560, N565, or N570? I have no experience with any of those.

I think n565 would be your best option. If you look at the burn rate chart below. Ive also used rl26 but ran out and switched to n565 for my 6.5prc
