Just curious what loads you guys are running. Mostly just bullet, COAL and if you're running H4350 the charge. My load development is starting now that I have my barrel. I do have some 150gr ELDX and 168gr Berger Classic Hunters sitting on the bench already.

I’ve been loading and shooting a pile of the 168s in 7RM (200+ in last couple months). The guys at Berger recommended against H4350... they responded really quick to an email so I’d give them a shot. Sorry if this doesn’t help, I believe the SAUM has less case capacity and is probably a whole different beast.

I’ve been testing some h1000 in my 20” saum. Speeds are sloooow. Going to work up to max case volume/pressure. Whichever comes first. Then going to try some rl26. Rumor is they’ll speed up until they hit 100 rounds. I’m at 35 so I have a way to go. I’m curious on the h4350 but I’m running 180 Eldm and heard the h4350 is for light bullets.

What kind of speed are you getting with H1000? I'm planning a build but will likley have a 22" barrel.

id imagine H4350 would work with the 180 eldm's
I'm using H4350 with 178gr eldx in a .300wsm and getting 2950fps with a 20" tube.
I switch to H100V or 4831SC when I go up to the 190-200gr bullets though.
Noslers load data for their 175gr ABLR in 7 saum is a max of 55.5gr IMR 4350 at 2810fps

There is some data out there where benchrest and fclass guys have done well with 4350 and 180s. Pressure seems to come in the 56.x in norma/adg and a longer throat. The case fill ratio isn't great at those charges but i wouldn't be afraid to try it especially in a short barrel.

My last load with 43.0 was 2680. No pressure signs. Going to keep going. Would like to get 2750.

Did you mean 63.0? My previous barrel pressured out around 64 h1000 (after breaking in and speeding up) and that was in the mid 2800s with 22" barrel.

I tried H4350 with 145 CEB Lazers and 58-59 grains seemed about right in that barrel.

Yeah 63.0. Good catch! Not sure why it’s so stinking slow but I’m hoping for a speed up. I’ll test it out Wednesday and see where I hit pressure.

I bet you'll see a speed up with more rounds on the barrel and also with fired brass if you're shooting virgin now.

Down to my last 6 virgin brass. Going to be using 1x fired. Just trying to get closer to 2750. I’m curious to see what rl26 does as well.

I find a load with virgin brass and my once fired brass loads are the same speeds. It works out great for me. IMR7828SSC and RL26 is what gave me the highest velocities.

IMR4350 and H4350 was ok with 140 grain bullets, speed wise.

I loaded 20 rounds last night for my 22”. Using h1000 65gr with Berger 168 gr classic hunters. Cbto 2.415”. Have never shot this brass or gun. Based it off this data. Thoughts?

Your initial load is 65gr of h1000 in a 7saum? 😮.

With a 168 though.

You’ll get more velocity with RL26. Your barrel might be a bit short for h1000 but I think there’s good potential to speed up yet.

I just got home from the range and put the first rounds through a new Krieger 22” SAUM. 63.0 grains of h1000 and a 180 Berger averaged 2760 FPS.

I’d probably start with rl23, h4831, or RL26 for a 168 in a shorter barrel but there’s no reason h1000 won’t work. Let us know how it goes.

Will it blow up in my face???? I started on the lower end and loaded .020 off lands to be as safe as possible.

The only powder I have worth a crap for this cartridge is h1000. I’m working on getting some h4831.

Personally I always start with a ladder test, building up to pressure. Especially in a new gun/chambering. 65.0 grains may be close to Hodgdon's starting load, but another way to look at it is it is only 2 grains below their max, or less then 3%. Not alot of room for error.

It's probably fine but since I think you're using bertram brass which might have less capacity I'd load 1 ea @ 63, 63.5, 64, 64.5 on your way up. R-P SAUM brass used in hodgdon's data is a little higher in case capacity than norma and ADG or at least it was with lots I used in 2015. Also keep in mind that Hodgdon powders can vary quite a bit lot-to-lot.

I have some loads done up with H4350 for my 7SAUM and 180 ELDM's that I'm hoping to try out this Sat. I got word on another 7SAUM group that H4350 and for the SAUM was the choice for benchrest guys and kind of a secret.
I have tried it already with 162g ELD'S during barrel break in and they shot 1/2moa or alittle better.

I am using H4350 for my 7 SAUM. Shooting 175 gr ELDX at 2.935” oal. Forgot the exact charge weight but I am getting 2730 FPS. I could go way hotter but these shoot really well and I want to get a lot of life out of my brass. Still puts my effective hunting range out past 800 yds.
