Antler boxes can’t hold other gear

Just waiting to board to head home in Kotzebue. We had to re-pack some gear it the airport last minute. We had used sleeping bags and some other bulky items to pad our antlers in the big antler box we got from our transporter.

Our totes we had that stuff in on the way up would fit fish boxes of meat so we had them loaded with fish boxes inside the totes. Others were having to repack antler boxes also because they had packed the same way.

It all worked out, but was a little hectic. Just a heads up for others traveling hunting. I’m sure its winding down for this year but may help someone later.

What was the reason for that rule?

No reason was given, we were just told that antler boxes can’t hold other gear. Another hunter had a copy of the regs and showed that it said nothing about not being able to have other gear in antler boxes. Their reply was that it said nothing about BEING able to either. Arguing with TSA seemed pointless, they have all the power in that situation.
