Backpack hunt for Montana elk

Leaving Sunday for a 10 day trip to SW Montana for archery elk and mule deer if the chance presents itself. Was happy with the weight of 44.4 lbs compared to last time I did this and it was over 64 lbs. my buddy has his around 53 pounds he said.

Plan is to arrive at parking spot Sunday night around 10 pm. Sleep in the truck then hike to a glassing tit around 430 am. Unless we are hearing bugles then will adjust accordingly. First area will be I. For around 4 nights with the backpack. My hunting buddy has to leave then so I’ll relocate to another area if not in elk and hunt from the truck.

In reach, gps, and bear spray on me while my friend will carry the .44 and bear spray.

We are not great at calling been listening to podcasts by elk101, Brian Barney, meat eater guys with Phelps and such.

Hoping to hear some bugles or spot and stalk to get in close then make a move from there.

Taking the first legal bull that comes within range.

Shooting sick trick mags out to 60 yards very confidently.

Will give updates when I can and some pics once back.

Good luck to you. I'll be leaving for SW Montana in a week. Leaving on the 16th and staying approx 7-10 days. Hopefully killing the first legal animal.
