Think I'm finally recovered from my first attempt at solo diy elk hunting. Got snowed out but boy was it fun.
Takeaways-
1. Elevation will do funny things to you, no matter how physically prepared you are.
2. Mountain weather can change on a dime. Calm and collected quickly turns into 50 mph wind and a grown man being scared like I was gonna get hit by a mac truck.
3. Bears seem to like rooting for food in all the same places you want to camp. Every time I hiked to a bench to camp, covered in bear sign.
4. Be prepared, have a plan, but be able to make choices on the fly. Was ticked to be coming off the mountain, but once I got the weather report it was clear I was done. Had backup plans but just weren't feasible with weather, and nothing I could do about it.
5. Enjoy it. Not many chances in life to live like this, and I dont know of other vacations where you get as good of workout, as awesome of views, and potential to bring home an animal.
