Finished up this synthetic quilt. Planning on using it late season so utilized 7.5oz climashield apex. Sewn in footbox, pad straps and cinch collar.

Learned a bit more with this project, next one will be using down. Now I need to build a compression sack for it, as it is a bit bulkier than I thought it would be, takes up an 14L dry sack.

I have had this Stone Glacier 6200 for about 5 years now. It’s haul more than a few critters off the mountain, but it has had it wear and tear with a rip in the bottom that I patched, so it’s the perfect candidate for some mods.

I like the simplicity of the one big bag design, but I have always wanted a single outside access pocket to put quick use items like snacks, gloves and such. So I decided to tackle this.

Unaltered pack

Next step was to sew the waterproof zipper in. I finished the ends with some grosgrain, and cut the metal zipper pull of to replace with microcord, to keep rattling noises down. Not my best needlework topstitching the zipper, as it should have run longer to create a box look.

Next up I need to make up the interior pocket. Using hyper d 300 I made up a 3” deep box design, finishing the edges with grosgrain

Then I sewn the pocket onto the interior seams of the pack. I should have ripped the interior seams to sandwich this seam in. Instead I roll hemmed the outside edges and topstitched 1/2” grosgrain overtop.

So here is the finished product, a quick access pocket for items needed on the hunt. I should note I mostly run this pack in Bivy mode without a lid for day hunts, which is why I am performing this mod, otherwise the lid performs the same function.

While I was at it I added a spotting scope sleeve to the main zipper access. Along with an additional 3/4” pullout pocket attachment lower in the pack so I can run 2 pullout pockets.

My latest project was this silpoly tarp tent. I made several mistakes through the project which resulted in a poor product. I have noted the lessons and will be making a version 2.0 later in the year. Still not a hard project for someone to do on their own, it would make a great shelter for early season hunts.

Awesome work, @bushpilot. You are ambitious and all of your work comes out looking great!

I've toyed with the idea of modding my SG Solo to add a side pocket for trekking pole tips or tripod feet, but haven't determined a good way to do it without ripping original seams.

If you wanted to build a pocket on the right side, you could easily make a hang off pocket from one of the buckle straps. That way you don’t wreck the value of your bag as well. A small bit of cordura, a couple of triglides and some webbing would do the trick.

Here is a pair of swing out pockets I built for a friends K4. One of the simplest projects of myog, but oddly they are very satisfying to make.

This is some pretty inspiring stuff. Do you use an industrial sewing machine? Jumping straight into working with lycra sort of fabric is kinda what I'm looking at myself, so it's cool seeing another sewing newcoming use that as their jumping off point.

What sort of tutorial did you follow for the water bottle pockets?

Sorry for the late reply on this one, been Mia for a while bear hunting. I’m just using a singer 4452 home machine. Looking at upgrading to a couple of industrial machines here shortly. No tutorial for the water bottle holder. But I’m going to make another so I can do a build along for that.

Been a minute but I have been slowly putting together this pyramid hot tent the last couple of weeks. It came together quite well, only will need a few minor adjustments for the next one. It weighs 2.5lbs with stakes and carbon fiber pole, 5.5lbs with my lite outdoors stove. Base is 9’x9’ and 6’ tall.
