Chronograph First Buy

I'm going to purchase my first chronograph for developing reloads for various rifles. I am familiar with standard models that shoot through hoops.

But lately I have been looking at a Magnet Speed but I am concerned that it is reading at the muzzle only and I want to be able to use it for finding velocity nodes for accuracy.

Can the Magneto Speed be used for that? Or am I going to have to buy one with hoops?

Thanks.

Magneto speed will do fine, as true muzzle velocity is really what you want anyway. Really, other than how they're set up, there's really no difference in the information they give you.

Now, a labradar, that's a different story...

Something to consider with the Magneto set up is it can affect your barrel harmonics. So your group size may change when you shoot without it. If all you're concerned about is finding velocity nodes it will work great. If you are looking to see how your group size relates to the velocity nodes you may be chasing your tail with the Magneto.
