Custom 300 WSM - who has them?

I am getting closer to having the funds and pulling the trigger to get a build started from HCA. I will be going with a 300 WSM. I know this isn’t the most popular caliber out there but for a solid 800 yard rifle it works well and I want a 30 cal in a rifle that is fairly light and easy to handle. Plus I have forester does and all the reload stuff. I currently own a 300 WSM in an older Abolt and have enjoyed the rifle. Just time to upgrade. Plan is to use it for elk and mule deer and possibly a second trip to AK somewhere in the future.
Interested in who has them, what loads/velocities and anything else you have to say about it. Pics would also be nice.
Thanks

Just finished mine - built off my Tikka Action and Proof Sendero light barrel. Throated long - my COAL is 3.1” with Barnes 200 Gr LRX. Using Norma brass and H4350. Pushing it at 2830 FPS.

Big fan of the WSM and this rifle has been a laser so far.

I have one being built right now. Borden action, Bartlein 2b, McM stock. Should be ready soon. Went with the wsm because I wanted an overall shorter rifle.

I've been extremely impressed with my 300 wsm. It would be my choice if I had to have one rifle for all hunting.

Rifle Specs:
Tikka Action
Mountain Tactical long action magazine
24" @HellsCanyon Barrel
Mcmillan Gamescout
Seekins Brake (the one thing I don't really like)
Nightforce SHV 5-20
Custom loaded ammo from @Unknown Munitions

I'm getting 2945 fps with 215 Bergers. Here is the ammo load thread.

Was looking at a 300 WSM but have decided to go with the 300 PRC. There is no denying that it is just overall a nicer setup avoiding some of the pitfalls of the 300 WSM, especially if you reload. The only issue may be that ammo is not as abundant on the shelf if you were in a bind for some. Hopefully that will never be a worry for me.

Kinda depends on what action your using & if you are gonna handload. 300 prc would not be my choice for a hotrod 30 in a full length mag action but to each their own. Tikka actions & short mags are a perfect marriage but in a short action there are limitations.

I guess I don't see anything "nicer" about PRC over WSM, just different. What are the pitfalls you reference?

Wow that seems fast in a 24" barrel. I'm just finishing up a load for my 300 wsm and and I don't know if I'll hit those speeds with a 180 accubond. But the rifle is a 23" barrel and had the best accuracy in the middle of the published range

What barrel contour in the game scout?

Mike @HellsCanyon would have to answer that one. My barrel is one of his very first and I'm not sure if it's the same contour as he is building now.

This barrel has always been fast for me and R26 is like magic in the 300 WSM.

I'll have to give R26 a try. I live in TN and a little concerned about temp stability as I usually practice most in the summer and hear that powder gets squirrelly above 80 deg.

I should have explained my needs more which the PRC would fulfill a little nicer than the traditional 300 WSM. Using it for ELR shooting and double to hunt with. The long heavy bullets just work better for that or makes it "easier" because of the physics. I haven't reloaded them but looking into it it is a little more straight forward.

Nothing life changing but since I am going to get one or the other, 300 PRC fits the bill better for what I am looking for. I would imagine your going to be seeing more of them in the future. It seems like it is going to be the 6.5 Creedmoor of the .300 calibers. Just the laws of physics.

Only thing I don’t like about the WSM is the lack of Alpha quality brass. I sure wish Lapua/Peterson/Alpha/ADG would pick up the 300WSM.

Justin’s barrel is a freak at that speed, but closely resembles my heavy hunter contour. Last few I’ve been running with H1000 and 4831sc have been in the 2875fps range with 215’s. N565 is slightly faster. Haven’t even bothered with RL26 last 18 months as it was extremely hard to find due to most the PRC crowd snatching it up :)

Not sure how custom mine is... CA Ridgeline in a Mesa Precision Arms Altitude stock. It shoots 190 Berger VLD's at 2890fps. Just got it back from Mesa, who did a killer bedding job! Slapped a new NX8 4-32x50 on it, time to get it back on the range. I'm wanting to get away from Berger's, so I'll build a load for the 178 ELDM's.
