dall sheep in the snow

Weather is looking snowy for the first week of October in the Chugach. Does anyone have any experience hunting dalls in the snow using backcountry skiis and or snow shoes and mitigating avalanche risk? I’m trying to weigh mobility and safety vs stealth for bowhunting. Feel free to post or send me a pm.

I don't think we'll have enough snow for skis or snowshoes by DS140. At least I don't plan on taking all that gear.

We’ll see . If this weather pattern continues and the temps drop 15 degrees I think we will have plenty of snow. Hope that’s not the case though.

You might be in luck for a snow free hunt... might get wet, but snow might not be an issue.

We've had snow quite a bit in the Brooks Range and I have found that if there is a distinctive snow line, the sheep tend to get pushed down the mountain - but not always. All bets are off if it is snow down to the valley floor

The forecast is just this side of terrible. It's time to get excited. I'm headed in tomorrow.

These are actually excellent weather conditions for hunting Dall rams with a bow in GMU 14C.
