Bought this for SxS camping since the big wood stove is too big.

Always hated how low it sat, and hoped to gain a little thermal mass. 1/8” plate.

Still have more plate, I’m going to make a grate for the bottom. I can Swiss cheese the plate with a 3/4 hole saw and bend some small legs.

never heard scrap iron called 'thermal mass' before.....
Gotta hold a bit more heat than that beer can thick stove. We always put some big rocks under it too for that 25 cent term. It’ll work good to heat my tortillas on too.

3 lbs. it fits in the seek case too.

Mainly it will be good for cooking. I hope. I could boil water quick on the regular stove top, but anything else would burn quick too. That Ti just gets so hot.
Field testing will begin in 10 days.33C24E77-7FA6-4855-A9B1-D66FAE31D2AD.jpeg

That might be one of the best tips I’ve read in a while. Will absolutely try that this season.

Truthfully, I’m just trying to stay busy till season. Everything is done except a few items at the grocery. Piling big rocks under it holds heat well.

I’m bailing on the log wall tent frame idea, even though I have the logs cut. Turns out we will be pulling a small trailer and the steel frame can go up in there.

I now have a good stock of seasoned Aspen for firewood.

This plate thing works well for tent cooking, really just heating pre cooked stuff.

The leg extensions work too, kinda wobbly but there are some big rocks under there that help. Nice having it up 9” farther. I’ll probably change that to 1/4” rod couplings and just cut some allthread extensions.

I did some mods and testing on the SO stoves a few years ago:

This mod was focused on getting rid of all the excessive and easily lost hardware, rods, nuts, feet. It looks like you are slipping your stove feet into conduit to raise the height but an alternate is to fabricate new feet from a combination of threaded rod an aluminum tube. It’s a solid and cheap solution that will land you with less loose parts. You can make the legs as high as you want.
