I've been using my kifaru scout for quite sometime and finally decided to make something similar but with some upgrades.
I essentially took a scout and added slot pockets to the exterior similar to a kifaru zulu. I also wanted it in M05 because it works great for my area.
I wanted slot pockets so I could have a place to easily access my hand saw and axe if need be. They also have drain ports on the bottoms of the pockets.
The harness I based off of a savotta style harness with how the webbing is verticle and added a cobra buckle to the belt.
Let me know what you think!

That is a great looking pack! The shoulder harness reminds me of Hill People Gear. That zipper pocket inside seems really handy too, nice job

Jake, this looks fantastic! How well do the slip pockets function? Do you find they interfere at all with the internal capacity of the main pack?

Finally glad to see the pals webbing on the lid oriented in the correct direction. The limitation of pouches I can place on my scout lid damn near gives me an aneurysm. Speaking of pouches, have you got any you plan on slapping on?

The slip pockets work great! I had a prototype where I didn't give them enough slack and it definitely messed with capacity. But on this one I gave them a little bit of slack when empty that way my hunters axe will fit in one side and my saw will fit in the other without losing interior space (now when it's slam packed full the axe takes a little wiggling to get out but I can absolutely live with that)

The lid PALs on the scouts always bugged me so this is far far better lol
I do plan on making some pouches similar but different to the mini longs that kifaru used to sell, so I can carry a nalgene or my grayl while being able to access it with the pack on.
I plan on making an admin style pouch for the top and a lashing pouch/sling for the bottom.

I am also prototyping a 3 row PALs belt to go with it vs. The two.

Really excited to see how this develops.

I've experienced the 3 molle rows that the Nixieworks lightfighter rigs use and bags stick to your belt rock solid. I'm 100% on board with you moving in that direction, it will feel like you're rocking a battle belt.

Have you thought about using some lycra-type stretch material at the seams of your through pockers? I've got no experience with sewing machines, but have put some thought into experimenting with tweave Durastretch along the front and sides of my Scout similar to how it's done on a lot of fastpacking/ UL packs you see out there these days.

It's nearly impossible to source the lock and dock pockets. But if anyone is able to execute on this, it's likely to be you man, keep up the excellent work!

Thank you for the kind words! And I haven't thought about using stretch material for the slot pockets yet. So far I haven't needed them. But in the future if I decide I want them to carry a 48oz nalgene or grayl geopress I may explore the idea more!

Here are some pictures of some improved mini long pockets I came up with to carry a nalgene and grayl while being able to access them with the pack on still. Plus a small organization pocket to stash a lid and some other small items.20230514_174220.jpg20230414_204240.jpg20230414_204127.jpg20230414_204222.jpg20230428_113344.jpg
