I have to drive to Prudhoe for work from Anchorage.. is it worth it to bring my bow and gear? No, I’m not doing the 5 mile march with a rifle, but do the bou ever get on the highway or close by? I can spend as much time as I want really, so waiting a day or so doesn’t matter. How many of you have seen them close by and bow distance? Or what’s the best time they’re closest to the road? I’m not sure of their migrations up there.

If you have the option and time to spend there’s no way you shouldn’t bring a bow. That would be the time you’d have bulls at 40 yards off the road lol. I killed mine last year right off the road at 60 yards

Where abouts (not exact spot, but general area) are they generally? Fairly close to Prudhoe? 500 miles away? I’m not sure where to even start looking. I haven’t been up north in probably 15 years and we flew up, so didn’t spend much time on the highway.

That’s hard to say. When are you heading up? I’ve seen them pretty much from just pass atigun all the way up to Prudhoe

I can basically go whenever. That’s why I’m trying to figure out the “best” time.

If you don’t take it, you are guaranteed to see herds standing by the side of the road

Yes, they get close to the highway. Bring the bow and binoculars.

Start looking once north of Atigun Pass.

Any ideas on what months they’re closer to it? I don’t know the first thing about their migrations.

No months. They will be where they want to be, and that can change overnight.

Thanks. Yeah I wasn't sure if they had a migration like some of the other herds during winter/summer months or anything like that.
