Esee Izula 2 vs Esee 3?

Which one would you choose?

My last knife was a Kabar BK14 but didn’t feel like putting more money into it like a better sheath and new scales. I did enjoy the 1095 so naturally I looked more into ESEE. Out of all their options the Izula 2 and the 3 looked the best for me. I did see the AGK and JG3 but I dig the classics. I like the Izula 2 due to its size and has a good bit of carrying options (pocket, neck, waist, pack). The Esee 3 on the other hand seems to be a more capable knife and with it being larger might be better for elk and if something were to go bad on a high country hunt this would be the knife I would want. I am leaning towards the 3 but would like to know what someone with more experience with either would pick.

I have multiple Izula's and 3's. An izula 2 is my edc fixed vkade and it's a perfect complement to a folder for harder use tasks. I wouldn't want to use it for extended periods of time as the handle just isn't large enough or contoured for continuous use. The new 3d scales on the Esee 3 are a definite improvement and make the knife very comfortable. If I had to pick one as a field knife the choice is easily the Esee 3 for me. Keep in mind irs substantially larger and heavier than an izula even though the blade length is only an about inch longer.

I'd also add, I'm a big fan of 1095 for hard use woods knives, but not necessarily for processing game. I have the 3 in 1095 amd s35vn and often grab the s35vn versiom for fishing and hunting.

I have both. I really like the Izula for small stuff like birds and small game. For deer size game, I just don't feel either retain an edge very well. Add to that my sharpening skills suck, I now use a replaceable blade knife for large animals.

The S35 esee 3 worked great on this deer and skinning a bison this fall. I suck at sharpening unfortunately!
