Snyd , after meeting you at the range this summer, you inspired me to put an old 44 Mag that (rarely got used) to use. Recently put this together and I am bringing it to Kodiak with me next week. Hope to call a deer in really close. My god it’s hard to shoot this. I guess I need a lot more practice.

I had a harder time with a scope. I switched to an Ultradot and what a world of difference! I now shoot 3” groups at 50 y. Off a rest..
I can also shoot with both eyes open like I do in Archery!

460 S&W with a Delta Point Pro sight, and a Performance Shop S&W 44 mag with a Vortex red dot. . Both are great hunting handguns but that 460 is incredible for any large animal.

Man this thread is killing me. I've really been wanting to start hunting with a pistol. Just not sure what to get other then I know I want a 44mag. I think that's the easy decision..now just what to fire it out of!

Ruger Super Redhawk 7.5". One of the new ones with the newer front site base. Great setup with the factory quick release rings if you want to add an optic. H3ill for stout, excellent action and tunable trigger. If you prefer a single action the Super Blackhawk Hunter with either the standard (plow handle" grip or my preference, a Bisley. My 45 Colt in the pics above is fabulous. Or... you could step up to the best revolvers made and go for a Freedom Arms model 83!

or.... maybe one of each!! :D

Get a 44 mag. You can take just about any animal in the world with it. Lots of projectiles out there for it. I am a fan of the A frame so far.

I have a SRH .44 mag 7.5 barrel with a red dot. Missed a doe last year with iron sights. I just can't see that well anymore, so I put a red dot on over the summer. Hopefully I'll get a shot at something this year. Anyone ever use the 225 gr Hornady FTX bullets? I bought a bunch of them when I bought the gun. They are accurate but I've never shot anything with them yet so I was curious how they performed. I've read mixed reviews.

Question: with a 4" .357 (or an almost 4" 10mm) what would you limit shot distances to, realistically?
How far can you consistently hit a 6” target? Handguns don’t have any extra energy, the closer, the better. For me with a 4” iron sighted 357, in actual hunting conditions, 25-30 yards.

circa 1985 (I look like a kid! :D) Dan Wesson .44 mag; tried three years to kill a bear with a handgun (multiple times I could have killed nice bears had I been toting a rifle), finally on year three (and me close to giving up) got a nice chocolate bear.

Back in Georgia many years ago on Thanksgiving giving day was my most memorable hunt (whitetail deer) with a handgun.
I only had the morning to hunt and decided to walk a ridge I knew deer would use to travel back to their bedding areas. A nice buck was moving at a steady pace just below me at about 40 yards.
I had just enough time to draw my SBH 44 mag and line up the sights as the deer came to an open spot. Made a perfect offhand shot. The deer took two steps and fell over. That really made Thanksgiving even more special and for some reason that hunt just sticks to me.
