I’m getting ready to start reloading and the hobbit rifle will be the platform upon which I cut my teeth. Right now I have a 23” 30-06 barrel but I’m going to pick up either a 20” 308 or 7mm-08 as well. I was curious what you boys are running, whether or not you’re loading for it, and if you are, what numbers are you putting up with what recipes?

Anyone else? I was thinking 7-08 for something lighter recoiling, but even though I’ll be reloading, .308 for ammo availability is comforting. Was thinking I could load up 125-130 grain pills out of a 308 and get similar recoil impulse to a 7-08. All shots on game would be inside 300.

Inside 300, pick your poison. It won’t matter. With the 308 you can load from 110 to whatever. A 150 out of 308 won’t be noticeably more recoil than a 140 out of a 7. It won’t have the bc, but you won’t need it at the ranges you’ve indicated. If your hunting deer sized game, I’d load up a 130 ttsx as fast as I could push it with acceptable accuracy or a TMK at the lightest weight I could find around 2700 fps and call it day.

What is a Hobbit rifle? I must live a sheltered life.
