I'm looking at doing a bear hunt this fall in Montana since I didn't draw any tags this year. I've never bear hunted before, so I'm reading as much as I can about it but it seems like info on fall seasons isn't as easy to come by as spring bear hunting. I was going to hunt the first two weeks of October. Timing wise, is that a decent time of year? What elevations or plant species or terrain features should I be looking for? I have a unit picked I think, so trying to narrow this down as much as I can.
