Okay so I had an idea that I want some opinions on. My idea is to make a jacket and pants with a breathable dwr outer layer, apex insulation, UL nylon inner layer. My thinking is that I can get the insulation benefits of a puffy, but have the durability and archery-friendly quiet of a softshell. Luxury features would include pit zips, detachable hood, and insulated pockets on the jacket and the pants would be zip off.
For context, I mostly archery hunt whitetails and turkey northwest illinois/southwest Wisconsin, but am hoping to do archery and rifle elk once a year out west.
So first question, is this actually a good idea? Am I just adding weight to solve minor problems?
Second if I do this project, does anyone have recommendations for an outer fabric? It's easy to find softshell material and easy to find camo, but not easy to find both together. Am I better off trying to dye some sort of shape breakup pattern on a non-camo fabric?
Thanks in advance!
