I was fortunate enough to win a Weatherby Vanguard 6.5 PRC with a Leupold Freedom 3-9x40 scope at my local RMEF banquet. Just wondering about others experience with this gun? I’m a lefty, but could keep it for my son or sell it. Ammo is impossible to find right now so not sure whether to keep it in the safe or sell it. Give me your input on the accuracy that you’ve found with it. I have a couple of Tikka's that I really like and don’t necessarily need another rifle.

Good rifles. The ones I've had were accurate. I like the two stage trigger. On the heavy side. They are a solid rifle overall. Made for Weatherby by Howa, if you didn't already know.

Yeah, it says Howa on the barrel.
Thanks for the input.

I love my .30-06 Vanguard after a few mods. The first upgrade was replacing the stock with a Bell & Carlson. The plastic stock flexed more than I’d like and the recoil was a lot harsher. The second upgrade was a Timney Trigger. The factory trigger was okay but glad I upgraded. Rifle is way more accurate than I am and seems to like any ammo I put through it. I might chop the barrel to 22” and thread it 1/28 so I can use my suppressor. Thinking of Cerakoting the barreled action and bolt as well.

My son's 25-06 vanguard is a shooter. The gun is a little heavy and the trigger isn't my favorite. But it shoots and the bolt runs flawelssly

Don’t need another rifle? It was free, are you kidding me?
Seriously, Vanguard’s are very solid rifles. I have a series 1 that I updated w/ a Timney trigger and a griptonite stock from a series 2. It is very accurate w/ Federal blue box 30.06, 165 grain.
I purchased a 243 wood stock Walmart special w/ the Hact trigger for my grandsons. It is heavy. I am really happy w/ the build quality. I need to try the 95 grain BT’s, but I haven’ t found them in stock locally.
I think the Vanguard’s are a great value and are overlooked, no idea why. I much prefer them to the last R700 I purchased. I love my Tikka SL but I think the design objectives are different- it is slick, light, and feels like a tool. The Vanguard’s feel more substantial, w/ nice bottom metal, just needing trigger work.
Good luck w/ your decision!

I have a howa med barrel .223 and a vanguard high country.300 win mag. Both are nice accurate rifles, zero issues with mine.

For lager calibers (where I accept some weight is good) the Vanguard is my favorite. For lighter stuff, The Tikka is undoubtedly a good choice too.

But I'm addicted to Savage Axis II stainless models which weigh in at 6.2 lbs AND I don't worry about "scratching them up" or rusting on nasty hunts... while they shoot as good a ANY rifle made (*and have been very reliable and VERY easily "tweakable" too).

"Free"... that's funny! The way I look at it is I finally got a little bit of my donation money back.
I appreciate all the feedback, I will keep it locked up and hopefully someday will find some ammo for it.

Post a picture? I have seen some neat engravings for banquet guns.

For the record, my stock factory 30-06 vanguard is lighter than my stock factory 30-06 Tikka T3.

Nothing fancy with it, just has the RMEF logo on the bottom metal.

I love my vanguards. Now I’m looking for a .223 so I can practice cheaper. Solid, accurate rifles. After market parts (stocks etc) options are getting better

I really like the plain Howa .223 I purchased a couple years ago. Bolt is smooth and feeds and extracts well. I’d play with it a bit and then sell it if so desired.
