Anybody have experience with using IMR 4831 with this round? Looking at the load data from their book, it lists 59.4 gr as a max load. This seems low to me. Any help would be appreciated.

H 1000 or Retumbo would be my choice for that round. I believe that HSM uses retumbo for their factory load, I personally use retumbo with CCI 250 primers.

Another for Retumbo or H1000. 4831 might be appropriate for some light bullets but it's too fast imo for the heavier bullets. Retumbo would be my first choice . It is a really slow powder that produces great velocity behind heavier bullets and generally runs out of powder room before it runs over pressure.

Can't help on the 4831. Have shot H1000 and Retumbo though. Could use either happily.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. Retumbo would be my first choice as well, but I don't have any readily available currently. I have a lot of 4831, however...

AA Magpro , Ramshot magnum , rl 25 ,VV n170 , imr 7828 would all be more appropriate for the bullet. You will most likely not be happy with the performance of the 4831.

If you are talking about hodgdon 4831 I started at 63 gr and went up from there running the 168 Berger.
*nevermind just reread the first post. Sorry

70.7 grains of Ramshot Magnum is what I'm running in my good buddy's Tikka 7mm mag.

We are touching bullets with that load at 100 yds. consistently.

My chronograph wasn't working today so I don't know the velocity.

I agree that the IMR 4831 is to fast for that bullet.
