Removing inner tent.... In the winter

Forgive me if this is stupid for those with more winter experience than I.

Is anyone running a tent without the inner in the snow? Idea being that if it was say, a red or black label hilleberg that has the outer fly all the way to the ground, you get protection on all sides but more room, as that inner tent takes up quite a bit of space.

Had a megatarp and stove, hated it, so I would rather avoid tarp/stove suggestion.

Anyone done this? Would it be too cold?

The only issue I could see would be condensation, but most tents have vents on the fly so it shouldn't be much of an issue. It'd basically be a free-standing floorless, which sounds like a good idea. I've done it in summer with flys that don't reach the ground and had no trouble except for bugs, but that won't be an issue in winter. Try it out and let us know how it works. At minimum you'll be gaining floor space and packing less weight.
