So just like the 28 Nosler project I’ve been messing with: https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/savage-ultralite-28-nosler-project.321882/

I picked up a 338 Brush Hunter cheap that is going to get a similar treatment as the 28 Ultralight did. As much as I was not a savage guy before. They are making some pretty interesting stuff. Having had several 338s in the past I think they perform extremely well out of shorter barrels. Definitely not overbore like people would assume with a belted magnum. I was thinking about a 375 Ruger but I have so many components for 338. As well as being more versatile.

Looking to have a lightweight 338 for hunting northern Wisconsin, and general bear hunts wherever they may lead. Previously, this role was filled by my CZ 375. Also, a hunt in coastal Alaska taught me that stainless is a must. This should cut a ton of weight off and be the kind of rifle I can chuck in the back of the truck and not care. Starting weight stock w/mag 7# 4.2oz

Looking to add:

Stockys Carbon stock(matching the 28)
Rail
Timney trigger
Steel trigger gaurd
Plastic magwell(it is integrated on the stock)
Leupold VX3 3.5-10 or 1.5-5(have both)
Warne QD rings
