Shrinking Wool

I bought my wife a pair of First Lite Larkspur pants and turns out they are a bit too big. Since they are out of stock I can't exchange for a small. Has anyone tried to shrink their merino wool successfully, or am I going to ruin it?

You won't ruin it but the amount of shrinkage is tricky. You could wash and then put in dryer removing every 5 minutes or so to take a few measurements, stop at desired point and line dry from there. You can always do it again but can't turn back except stretching out when wet. Good Luck
