Looking for recommendations for a hunt for ibex in Spain or Austria where I can bring my wife along and she won’t feel like she’s roughing it.

You could hunt all 4 species in Spain for equal to or less than the one species available (Alpine Ibex) in Austria. That said, the Alpine Ibex is one of the coolest of all the species, and is an actual Ibex, unlike the 4 referred to as Ibex in Spain. Hunting Spain was really fun when I went and would recommend it to anyone. Austria was also fun to hunt, but I wasn't able to hunt Ibex in Austria due to cost and limited tags.

I just finished an alpine ibex hunt in Austria and had my wife tag along and she absolutely loved the area and hotel. I booked through St. Hubertus Hunting Tours and they were wonderful. You will have a choice of places to stay but my wife picked a hotel called Refugium Lunz and be warned if you end up staying there your wife may want you book the hunt for the following year as well.

In Spain you have 4 subspecies to hunt. And usually they are more affordable than alpine ibex, at least you are looking Gold medal Ibex Gredos that nowdays is expensive like Alpine ibex. For your wife don't worry here she can make lot of tourism without problem.

Since 2021 the last canton of Valais has banned foreign hunters to obtain a lisence to hunt ibex. So you can not hunt Ibex in switzerland anymore legally anyway.

The Swiss ibex live mainly in southern cantons of Valais and Graubünden. Valais had a strict quota for foreigners before and Graubünden was banned for foreigners and only allows locals to hunt ibex.

Laws are tricky , in Graubünden you could only shoot a male if you shoot a female first and you only have a three week window to hunt. Shoot the wrong one lisence gone and a fine coming your way.

Slovenia or Austria are the places to be at. Slovenia being cheaper of the two... France has them but a small population due to hunting and no regulation before and are now protected.

Bulgaria has had them introduced and can also be bowhunted only European country that you can do so

Ive hunted Spain with my wife and it was fantastic (Trophy Hunting Spain). My buddy just hunted Austria and love it but as others have mentioned, the price difference is large. Its only gotten worse with conflict in the middle east for the mountain hunters and reduced NR opportunity.

In Spain most outfitters hunt the same areas as tags are sold to the general public/outfitters. So it doesnt matter as much who you go with. But THS, Wild Hunting Spain, Big Hunting Spain, Giuseppe Carrizoso, to name a few. If you follow hunting auctions online, you can usually get a really good deal for daily fees.

I hunted Spain earlier this month with Pablo Carol and Wild Hunting Spain and I don’t think anyone could do a better job than they did. It was an incredible trip. Hunted Gredos/Beceite Ibex and Cantabrian/Pyrenean Chamois.

You can go to Mallorca and hunt the Balaerian Boc if you hunt Spain. Mallorca is quite the destination.

Slovenia is also an incredible place to hunt! Overall, very cheap to hunt several species there, But the Alpine Ibex are still quite expensive.

Slovenia has a Very limited Quota for Alpine Ibex. Permits are very difficult to get.

I have just signed up for a Gredos & Biceites ibex hunt with Fran Cortina and Corju hunting for Jan 2025. After the hunt we will take 10 or so days to travel around with my wife. Would love to hear of must see places or attractions as well as places that were not worth the visit.

If you are going with Fran and you are going to pay the high amounts he usually want, why you don't ask him the best places for tourism?, he also make tourism packages
January usually is the worst month for tourism in Spain and also is not the best for Beceite ibex... If your plan is tourism and good trophies best season between 15 november until 10 december, also in Spring good weather for tourism and good trophies but the hunt for Beceite is in the fields... Is less nice.
If you go Gredos you can visit Toledo and Cáceres. Beceite ibex depends the area, Barcelona and Valencia very nice places and are near. La Alhambra in Granada is very beautiful all the foreigners love it but is far from Gredos and Beceite areas. There are many places to visit in Spain and all of them are beautiful it depends what kind of tourism you prefer... If you say what you like I can help you.

I will be talking to them for suggestions. I like asking other hunters who have been there for travel and site seeing suggestions. We prefer the out of the way places to visit or stay to get a better flavor of the local culture and traditions. Yes we will hit some of the places everyone goes to but any suggestions for smaller more “traditional” sites to visit or places to eat and stay would be greatly appreciated.

I have hunted Alpine Ibex in Austria. It was a blast and I would suggest it if you are into Ibex. Spain is next for me. I would like to take on those 4 ibex. I am looking at Fernando Saiz outfit.
