So this could be a two part thread, first has anyone ever had any critters come under there shelter in the middle of the night?
Second would be how much money has rokslide cost you!!!!?
So I am not new to rokslide maybe a year or so now but it has cost me a lot, nomad, hoyt fackor, Mountain smith LT, black diamond carbon poles, BA q core pad, expend pillow and an EE quilt. Those are the things I remember off hand, sure there has been more!!
So last night I had my nephews over, four boys total from 7 months to 6 years for a family camp out, thinking it would be a great time to try out some gear for an up coming hunt. Long story short in the middle off the night I felt something rub my leg, freaked me out! It was the wife's cat, holy chit!!! And yes an EE quilt in 10* will sweet You out when it's 60 at night:)

I would say rokslide has saved me money. I was going to buy backpacking stuff anyway, rokslide helped me buy the right stuff the first time. As too the floor less shelter the only kind I stay in are wall tents ;)

I do get bugs sometimes, just keep my bag in a TI Goat bivy and smash anything I see.

Really didn't have any bug problems but I was in my back yard:) not to worries about bugs when hunting as long as I stay away from the swamps, that's why I went floor less. Just seeing if anyone had critter problems? Yes the ti goat is on the list!!!

I spent last night in my Mountain Smith with my new EE quilt as well. It was in the yard with the kids. Had a daddy long legs crawl on me, my 7 year old son saw it and tried to smash it with the flashlight. Hit me right in the nuts. Had 3 more spiders crawl over my face.

Sorry but that's funny

Floorless for me is definitely the way to go and switching out the Tyvek for the Ti-Goat bivy was a welcome step up. Basically no weight penalty and the comfort of knowing there are no visitors in the bottom of my bag is priceless.

I was down in the Mark Twain this past spring turkey season and had an armadelo come right to the tent rooting threw the leaves, went down the left side of my tent from the door to about the second pole in my paratipi I slapped the side of my tent scared the s%+t out of the damn thing but he never came inside. I pitch my tent a little tighter to the ground and I have to have a door for peeace of mind (don't want to wake up with a coon on my face)!

Rokslide has probably cost me ~$3k. I'd have been peacefully hunting whitetail with my same old gear just dreaming of hunting the big buglers out west but now I'm not content to dream, it must happen. Making it happen would have probably eventually happened anyway but I'd have probably been miserable and quit early or died on the mountain but it would have been cheaper for sure. :)

No doubt my eye opener came two years ago, I shoot a 5 by 5 on the coast range of Oregon by my self on probably the hottest day ever for our coast range (72% at 4 am) and had to work my ass off to get it cooled with inadequate gear! From that day I swore I would never put myself or an critter in that position. In the end it all worked out and I got help to get the meat out but the lessons had already been learned!!!!

While the Rokslide Classifieds have cost me a few hundred dollars, I estimate I've saved nearly as much over new prices. Not to mention the deal alerts on sales, coupons & such. But I do have to admit, at some point you have to realize your kit is light enough and just be happy w/ what you have. There will always be something new, that's just a little lighter, but 2x the cost. Enough is enough, time to focus on hunting.

I'm going floorless this season also. Haven't had any warm blooded critters inside during testing, but I suppose it's possible as some have said. I have a TiGoat bivy though so I'm not worried about any tiny crawlers. I have thought about spraying the outside of my tent down with Permethrin just to maybe knock down a few insects, but haven't done it yet. Not sure it's worth messing with. Spiders don't generally succumb to insecticide so they would likely still make it inside. Anyone else use Permethrin on their tent?

And for the thousands that Rokslide has cost me, it has probably saved me double that amount in terms of getting the "right" gear the first time and not wasting precious time and money testing a bunch of junk... And I always enjoy finding bargains in the classifieds!

Permethrine has worked well for me on my tents/shelters.

Can't say I have ever had an animal get into my floorless shelter, but I imagine they could pretty easily at some point or another.

Pretty sure rokslide hasn't cost me any money, it all evens out if you know what I mean.

Convinced the wife to go floorless this season. Couple years ago we went backpacking in the Great Smokey's and only used a tarp. Let's just say the daddy long leg incident is still discussed!!! Only was able to convince this time because Colorado in late Oct should be relatively bug free.

I got turned on to floorless shelters here and just wish I knew about them sooner. The only problem is that, they are not very useful out this way... At least I don't think so. There is too much moisture in the ground.
