Just a nice FYI. Good to know, since mayo tastes great on a lot of things and is packed with calories.

Direct from the Hellmann's/Best Foods (same mayo, different brand name west of the Rockies) website. Not necessary to keep cool AFTER opening.

Bought a bottle of this yesterday for my afternoon sammy's on this week's lope hunt. Gonna play it safe and keep it in the cooler. Still don't trust mayo sitting in the sun.

That's an interesting paragraph. The manufacturer (and tons of actual studies that you can read) literally confirm it is "safe".

Sun is going to make it separate if it gets hot enough, which might affect flavor or palatability even if you shake it, but you can still "trust it" to be safe to eat.

I'm totally in for keeping it in a cooler if you have one, or at least the shade. My post was really informational for those who will be in the backcountry, maybe a group of folks, for multiple days without ice. Just knowing it's safe is nice to know for me. I like mayo on stuff, and definitely appreciate all those calories in a lightweight, easy to carry package. Another high calorie dense option that a lot of people like but might not consider if they thought it would go bad. I know that was the case until I learned this.

Keep it in the shade or below 75 degrees and you have the same conditions you see with it literally sitting on the table for days in thousands of restaurants across the US.

To each his own, of course. Having spent hundreds of days living for weeks outside in all kinds of weather, including living in a caved-in mine shaft for a summer and living on the Mokelumne River in a 10-man Army tent, I'm not particularly squeamish about my food. :)

I used to work with a mountaineering guide that would just randomly take mayo packets out of his pocket and slurp them down. The first time I saw him do it we were outside in a howling blizzard and he says "It's 60 calories you want one!?"

Don't leave it in the sun or in a pack thats been left in the sun.....Not necessary to refrigerate doesn't mean the bottle won't expand and leave you a pornstar mess to clean up
I hate mayo and refer to it affectionately as “demon semen” — so your analogy fits.

Yeah, I’m out. I’d rather just use a GU pack or something.

Thanks for the heads up OP, this is actually going to be a big deal for me as we do all sorts of trips that I exclude the mayo on due to need for refrigeration.

Mike, it would be helpful if you posted a few more photos of the bottle, you know, for reference :ROFLMAO:

I actually just copied a small portion of the text, and the website added all that other stuff through some voodoo-ass magic! Also, can't delete any of the photos in my post. Yep, magic!

As a plus, you can see the "NO REFRIGERATION NEEDED" stamp on several of the bottles. You are welcome.

First photo shows the bottle with number of ounces.

Second photo shows full frontal.

Third photo shows the mayo bottle quartering away to the left.

Fourth photo quartering away right.

Fifth photo shows the rear.

Sixth photo nutrition facts.

This is the most informative mayo post ever!

Probably didn't need the duplicate set of photos but that's ok.
