Tikka T3X Superlite - Recoil in .223?

Apologies for the dumb question - but does anyone have a Tikka T3X Superlite in .223 that they could share how the felt recoil is? I know this can be subjective...but the reason I ask is because I'd like to get one for my middle son as his first center-fire rifle when he gets a little older. He's seen my T3X superlite in .270win and loves it. Even though I don't necessarily consider the .270win to be a punishing caliber, as far as recoil goes, the Superlite being...well, really light, does thump me pretty good. So: would you consider the T3X Superlite in .223 to have manageable recoil for a young hunter/shooter, or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks for any help.

I havnt shot a .223 in a Tikka, but I have in a light single shot rifle and it didn’t feel like much. I would think he would be fine with that.

The 223 SuperLite weighs 6.2 pounds while your 270 SuperLite weighs 5.9 pounds. The 223 will have leas than 20% of the recoil of the 270.

Have him shoot it. If it’s too much, put a Limbsaver on it. You may want one on your 270 as well if it’s thumping you.

The Tikka T3x Compact .223 paired with a suppressor, SWFA 6x milquad in mil/mil in Sportsmatch TO84 rings is literally THE perfect delivery system for this application and many, many others.

Though ammo isn't as plentiful it's to bad Tikka stopped chambering their T3x Compact model in 204 Ruger.

The nice thing about the compact model is it comes with two different recoil pad lengths so for younger shooters you can use the shorter one that takes the LOP down to around 12.5 and then when they're older or you want to shoot it yourself you swap it out for the longer 13.5 LOP piece.

Echo the consensus thought. Mild recoil. No problem for my 11 and 13 year old daughters. The 11 year old can be a bit skittish with firearms, but the tikka t3x superlight is gentle. Mine is a Form special soup to nuts.

My wife will absolutely not do recoil and she would shoot .223 from a t3x till we’re out of house and home if I let her.

my kids (16F & 14M) have both been shooting their own Tikka SL 223 for a few years now. Recoil non-existent

How old and how big is your middle son? The Superlite comes with a full size stock that is too long for a smaller child. I bought my daughter a Superlite in 223 but I also bought two take-off compact stocks - one for the 223 and one for a future T3X for her in 6.5 CM or 7mm-08.

There is, what 0.3 pounds difference between the superlite and regular Tilkka T3x? I have shot a 7mm rem mag in that rifle for a couple of afternoon range sessions and the recoil wasn’t a problem. The 223 will be fine.

Limb saver recoil pad will make recoil next to nothing, my 95 pound daughter shoots it with no problems

loud noise also induces flinching etc. wear earplugs with muffs over them. virtually no recoil in a .223 of any sort.
